Consolidation for "size of archive exceeds" is not working.
I am working with Acronis true image Home 2009.9809 . Backing up to a 750G external drive.
I am running incrementals nightly and have the Automatic Consolidation set for "Automatically consolidate backups when Size of Archive Exceeds 300GB.
ATI has blown repeatedly blown past this limit and we are now have 600+G of incrementals and growing... and will eventually be out of space.
What am I missing here? Does automatic consolidation work?
I have two other systems at other locations doing the same.
Thanks for any suggestions.

From what I can see if you start off with build 6053 and do some backups and then upgrade to 7046 when the archive size limit is passed ATIH2010 will not consolidate. This seems to be due to the fact that when you create a new task or update to a new build the archives created by the previous task/build are not managed. If you manage them manually when the archive size exceeds the set parameters for archives created by the same task/build it will start to work as expected.
This is what I have experienced.

Well,
This weekend I completely uninstalled ATIH2010 build 7046 (complete with using the uninstall cleanup utility afterwards) and re-installed fresh and made a brand new task.
It still doesn't consolidate on size limit.
At the time of reinstallation, the program automatically picked up that there were already ~400GB worth of existing backups - interesting, because I still hadn't told it WHERE any backups were - either it automatically scans for them during install or the existing DB file [of archives] wasn't deleted during the uninstall/cleanup - and I set the limit to 500GB.
After doing new backups, I'm now up to 518GB and the program *still* hasn't triggered consolidation/deletion.
So, what I'm seeing (at least with build 7046) is definitely not the same as your experience..
I find it ironic that no Acronis rep has bothered posting in this thread. Shows how much they care about supporting their products.

Hello all,
Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.
I may suggest you to update Acronis Scheduler to overcome the issue with the consolidation:
-
Download the latest build of Acronis Scheduler;
-
Run the downloaded file. It will automatically update the service;
See if the issue is resolved. If it is not, then please proceed with steps 3 and 4:
- Reboot the machine;
- Recreate the scheduled tasks.
If the issue still persists, please collect AcronisInfo and submit a request to support.
We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.
Thank you.

Hi Ilya,
I am already running the updated scheduler and yesterday with a webex session highlighted what I said above which I standby at this time. It is being progressed as case# 00715486

Hello RayG,
Thank you for the information about your open case.
It was escalated to our Tier2 (Experts) Team. I've contacted their manager directly and your case will be handled as soon as possible.

I wanted to try a fresh start so I figured I would remove the old tasks and archieves, and start over.
I open Acronis and I got a popup that "File is corrupted". I could close that message but it would immediately come back. The only thing I could do was uninstall Acronis. After I did that I deleted all existing backups... created new tasks and set the limits for consolidation. Running the first job now.
Will see it that behaves.

Here is the feedback on the reinstall. Job reached stage 3 of 3 which was consolidation and showed 2 days remaining. Note that all tasks and backup acrchives were deleted in Acronis and from the external drive, Acronis was uninstalled, machine rebooted, and Acronis reinstalled - BEFORE I created this task and ran it.
So at this point, there was only one backup, what was it consolidating?
Cancelled that job. Deleted the task, cleared the archives. Started the task and this time job failed.
Will uninstall Acronis and leave it uninstalled. Will return to using Norton Ghost. Ghost has its own set of warts but I always managed to get it to work and no one ever told me I had to use a third party product to achieve basic functionality. I do tech support for a living. I am very disappointed in True Image.
I have used Acronis Disk Director... and that seemed very logical and operated fine. True Image, however, needs work. Sorry.

ATIH2010 build 7046 and PlusPack build 7046.
Full nightly backups and auto validation work. Automatic consolidation (User's Manual pg. 117-118, Sections 13.4.1 and 13.4.2) with automatic deletion do not work. Both the "quota violation" (number of full backups) and/or the "size of archive exceeds . . ." are ignored and nightly full backups continue to accumulate until the backup drive is full. No further backups are then made.
So this went to "Tier2 (Experts) Team" on June 11, 2010. No solution more than a month later?
Ghost is looking better and better.

Hello Tomster and Wendell!
Thank you for your comments and sharing your experience with us!
Tomster, thank you your feedback. I'm very sorry that you've faced this issue and had a bad experience. It's hard to say what went wrong due to the lack of investigation information, but most probably some of the tasks traces were left in the registry. I would be glad to investigate the issue for you, but I'll entirely understand in case you decide not to deal with this issue anymore.
Should you decide to give it a last shot, I would appreciate if you could send us Acronis Info from the machine with the issue.
Wendell, welcome to our Forum, it's nice that you've joined us! Unfortunately there are several causes for this issue, so there's no universal solution that we could post on Forum. The best way to get this resolved is to follow the Ilya's instructions and let us know the case number.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!

Is the scheduler update applicable to people running version 7046 of ATI Home 2010? What is fixed and what new functionality exists in the update?

Hello Bob!
Thank you for your question.
Scheduler Service is a part of Acronis True Image Home, it's responsible for creation, execution and running tasks. Any glitch in creating, executing and running the task point onto the glitch in the Scheduler. In such cases we use the Scheduler Update, which modifies the scheduler and fixes its errors. It is absolutely applicable for Acronis True Image Home 2010 7046 users. Since it's not some feature or program update, there are no new functionality available. It's mostly a fix for the issue and never provided unless tasks aren't working properly.
Let me know in case you have any additional questions, I'll be glad to address them.
Thank you!

Is there a fix forthcoming? I have this issue with ATI 2010 and the updated Scheduler did not fix it. Does it work properly in ATI 2011?

There is no ATI 2011 yet.
FWIW: The updated scheduler never fixed it for me, either.

There is an ATIH2011 Beta going on at this time but it is not clear if this is fixed in that version as I am not running it on my main PC at this time. Rest assured however that this issue was reported for ATIH 2010 and demonstrated so I do expect it to be fixed in ATIH2011.
That said we will have to wait and see.
