Copy Backup

Thread needs solution

I have a problem with acronis true image 2013.
I backed up on a hard drive, but I want to copy it to another hard drive that I always carry with me.
I copied the backup file, but when I try to restore it give me an error.
When i try to restore on the original hard disk, recovery successful.
What could be?

Hard to know without more detail. What soft of drives? Is the "copy" drive connected to the same port, using the same cable, as the other drive? Have you run any error checking?

Run chkdsk /r on that drive. Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

If it's a USB drive:
Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case. See if that works better.

The hard drive on which I have backed up is 3.5 "with external power, while the one on which I have to copy the backup is a 2.5" usb powered.
The hard disk is good, i checked.
What i'm doing is possible?
Can i copy a backup file already done to another hard drive?

Again, since you haven't reported to answer on any of this:

Run chkdsk /r on that drive. Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

If it's a USB drive:
Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case. See if that works better.

You can copy a tib file to another drive.

Apart from running chkdsk /r as Tuttle suggested, exactly what happens when you try to recover from your external drive, what messages do you get if any?

You might want to use a free copy program such as Replicator.

This program will copy and check the copies for errors.

As MVP Tuttle suggested,
"If it's a USB drive:
Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case. See if that works better. "

When doing the restore, be sure and use opton the "recover disk signature" option if the computer is Win7 or XP.
This option is found on the same screen where the target disk is selected.

The HDD is connected directly to the pc, I'm doing chkdsk on the hard drive now.
When I try to restore I get this message:
Can not read sector xxxx, the quality of the support may be low.
I see the following error: 0x00040001 +0 x00590001

The message points at some disk problems. Did you run the check on the disk with the option to check for bad sectors? If yes, does the disk manufacturer provide some utility? Sometimes, the Microsoft disk checking utility doesn't find things that others do.

Aside from the error you are seeing here, although you can copy a TIB from a disk to another, you need to keep in mind a couple of things:
- make sure you copy the entire chain of backups (full + partials) -- not relevant if you use full backups each time,
- run a validation of the copied file -- we have seen simple file copies corrupt enough data in the file to make it fail validation. It is not because validation fails that the backup is lost, but you will lose of lot of confidence you can restore if validation fails.

I try this program to copy the backup file: http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp.
I copied and restore the backup file and everything works well.

Thanks for the answer!
