Corrupt BUP - Cherry picking files off of it
I backed up my system immediately when I purchased Acronis in 2008.
My operating system (Windows XP) and hard drive started to crash/fail and for a couple of days I fought with it. Finally I did an incremental BUP of it about 4 hours before the hard drive failed. My computer savy friend told me not to use the incremental BUP as it was no doubt corrupt.
I bought a new HD and installed it. Then I restored the original BUP and everything worked OK. Then I decided to get a few video and music files from the corrupt BUP. I thought as they weren't really part of the OS it should be OK. Well, it must have been a mistake as it screwed up my system and I had to start all over again.
The system is running OK now with the original BUP.
My question is: Why can't individual files be cherry picked without corrupting the system again?
Thanks,
Jim

Sorry it took so long to answer. I couldn't get onto the forum.
At any rate, I think I tried to restore them.
Aloha,
Jim

Hello Winward and MudCrab,
I understand the issue and will do my best to help you.
Windward, first of all I may suggest you to upgrade to the latest build of the software that is available from Your Account.
I may also recommend you to explore the backup archive and copy necessary files from it. To do it, just double-click created .tib file and you will be able to view the archive contents and copy files.
Please reply to this thread if there the issue is not fixed or if you have any additional questions, I'll be glad to help you.
Thank you.
