corrupted back up

Thread needs solution

I created several backups. Months later my computer crashed. After restoring Windows operating system, I reloaded ACRONIS from my CD. I tried to explore one of the backups, but got an error message that it was corrupted. I checked all of the other backups and they were also "corrupted". I now suspect that the backups were made under a different version of ACRONIS than I loaded from my CD. How do I tell what version the backups were made under?

I'd first ask if you were able to "verify" any of the backups when they were created? If so then I suspect that they are not corrupt now.

Next I'd create a bootable TI CD "boot disk' with your installed TI product. Then boot from that CD and see if the Linux version (on the CD) can read the archives. If so, then do your restores from the booted CD.

Let us know what happens.

Some time ago Acronis said that you can't tell what version made a backup but to be honest, that seems rather strange since it is so easy to write that info into a file.

Usually if there is a problem with an old program trying to access a new archive that has a changed format is a message saying something like, "this is not a TI archive".

What you should do is get your latest version with its latest build and create the rescue CD from it. TI's track record of reading the formats of older versions is very good assuming the LInux supports your hardware properly. Do as Fungus suggests and Validate the archive.
