"Corrupted file" error?!?

Thread needs solution

Hello. I'm using Acronis® True Image Home® version 10.0 (build 4,942). I performed a full system backup of a laptop...not once but TWICE. So, I had two archives available to me. Both were completed successfully and validate fine. The backup was performed over a network where both PCs were on the same GigE subnet. The restore failed about half way into it saying the archive was corrupted. I tried the other archive and again, at some point, it failed with the message that the archive was corrupted?!? The archive is on an external USB harddrive. When the external harddrive was moved from the networked PC to directly connected to the target PC, the restore was successful! So, the "corrupted file" pop-up message is false. It was never corrupted, it just had trouble restoring over the network for whatever reason.

On a different laptop, I did a full system backup. Again, twice to be extra sure. Months pass by. The hard drive fails and I need to fly out of the country to replace the hard drive and perform a restore. I boot off the Acronis rescue media CD and this time, I have a USB backup drive directly connected to the target laptop. The archive validates but the restore eventually fails with a "corrupted file" message. I try it again and it fails at a different spot. I try the other archive which validates and eventually fails with a "corrupted file" message as well?!? I wasted more than several hours trying to restore one of two different archives which both validate successfully. Due to time restraints, I had to give up and reload the OS and all applications from scratch.

I do not trust the "corrupted file" error message. The archives validate and I can restore individual files from either archive. I'm so frustrated that I want to uninstall the product and get a refund. Any tips or recommendations?

I had a similar problem. But in my case I found that the interface of the USB drive had sometimes data errors. Took a new enclosure for the HD and no problems anymore. Perhaps you can copy the backup file from the USB drive to the internal HD validate it and try again.
