Corruption of File Explorer in Windows 10

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image 2015 (ATI) to back up my Windows 10 installation. Backups are made to an external hard drive via USB port. I had quite a few backups and went into ATI to delete them. ATI has a facility for deleting the name of the backup file from its list and/or deleting both the name in the list and the actual backup file from the external hard drive. On performing the latter things went wrong and duplicate partitions/folders appear when Microsoft File Explorer is opened. i.e. two copies of Windows 10 and other drive partitions are shown.

This all seems to be tied up with COM Surrogate. Windows Restore point responds with an error message saying all Windows files were left intact after failure to carry out the Restore. The inability to use the create and restore function is a real set back. This is really annoying after all the work I have done to get Windows 10 to run so reliably. Can anyone help me restore things to normal please?

Thank you.

Hi Norman,

do I understand correctly that you wanted to delete your backup task with all related backup files. After that your system disk has duplicated partitions and folders.

1) can you please describe your steps in details?

2) please attach illustrating screenshots

3) did you get any error messages?

Thank you,
