Create Image and Work On Computer Same Time

Thread needs solution

I think I saw a discussion somewhere that it is possible to do an image of my system using True Image Home 2010 and keep working on my day to day items at the same time.

This doesn't make sense to me as things would always be changing during the 1 hour 20 min image process.

Is this possible to work and image at the same time or am I looking for trouble?

I do hate to be down for almost an hour and a half when I want to update during the day.

Thanks

I would agree that that is just looking for trouble, even though some have said they do it. And it might just be in your case where it doesn't work right. Do your backup at the end of the day.

It doesn't matter that things will be changing while the image file is being created. TI uses snapshot technology, which means that it first takes a snapshot of the file system at the moment that you start creating the image. You can then go on working. Any changes made after the imaging process starts are not included in the image file.

Thanks for the reply. Many times during the day, I have wanted to add something new to my system but thought I really want a stable backup first before installing. That would force me to wait til tomorrow morning to let the overnight image finish.

You have saved me some time.

But if you start imaging process, (snapshot taken here), begin installing /productname/, installing completes partially and then machine reboots for whatever reason before the backup is done, you will end up with partially installed /productname/ and uncompleted (=no) backup of the stable machine prior to installation. I don't know if try&decide saved state survives reboot in this case.
