create rescue media on flash drive
I have been trying to create the bootable rescue media on a flash drive since I am guessing from all that I have read that the windows 8.1 boot order may be different than in older versions of windows and I can't figure out how to access the bios to change the boot order. I have created the rescue media on a disk but want to have it on a flash drive as well (just in case).
Anyway, I did find steps to follow at http://www.top-windows-tutorials.com/acronis-true-image-2015-rescue/ but no matter how many times I have tried opening it up, going to the rescue media builder > choose bootable media and then clicking the back button because the only removable drives showing up are for the media cards it will not show me the flash drive which is installed and it is showing up in my computer. Why won't it show my flash drive. As I said, it is showing up in the My Computer section and I have even tried using a different port with no luck. How can I make the bootable rescue media on a flash drive if it does not appear as one of the options / media destinations?
Any assistance would be so very much appreciated. Thank You

Lisa,
Some more information about your PC is required.
Is it a brand name PC, if so what brand?
Is your PC a new UEFI model or a legacy BIOS one, and Windows 8.1 has just been installed on it?
There is no set key for the entering a BIOS, there is a set way of entering the UEFI firmware if running W8/8.1/10.
For BIOS the keys can be the del, F1,F2,F10 are the most common. You need to be quick as the PC boots up, press one of these keys and see if one of them gets you to the BIOS.
For a proper UEFI based PC, boot Windows, then click on RESTART whilst holding down the shift key, this will boot into a special screen where you will have a UEFI option. F10 on a UEFI machine may also get you there when booting.

So sorry, I should know better than to not include all of that information.
It is a Dell XPS 8700 that I just got and it is running windows 8.1 and was pre-installed on the computer when I got it. It is the 64 bit home version.
I am not sure exactly what you mean by UEFI model or a legacy bios. But I did notice that there is no product key on the exterior of the tower (which was on my old one as well as the laptop I have). I have also noticed that there is no option for accessing the boot menu / bios when the computer is just starting up. I have only had it for about a month now and was going to contact Dell to ask them just how I am supposed to access the bios on this computer as well as a few other questions that I have.
From what you are saying I am now thinking that maybe this is what you are calling a UEFI model pc with the windows 8.1 home (64 bit) that was pre-installed when I got it. I really was looking to replace the old computer with one that had windows 7 on it and now I am wishing I had the money to have been able to afford to have gotten the version that was available with windows 7 professional on it. Oh Well!
So I am guessing that I need to boot the computer, then click to restart while holding the shift key down at the same time and that will allow me to boot to the UEFI screen and will that get me into the bios so I can change the boot options so that it will look to boot from the dc/dvd drive first. I know that my vista laptop is set to look to boot from the cd/dvd drive first then the other options after that.
Will try that and see if I can access those bios.
Thanks so Very Much

Lisa, I also bought a Dell XPS 8700 a few weeks ago and was wondering the same thing- so please write back here about your success in accessing the UEFI (something which I also just heard about- I wonder how it's pronounced? oofy?)
Oh, also, check out Dell's forums on their web site- good place for such questions.

I finally realized that there was a scroll down and that is where I could see the option for the flash drive so I did create the media on a flash drive as well.
I have also figured out how to boot to the rescue media on my Dell XPS with the UEFI bios. On my computer I put the usb into the usb port and started the computer. As soon as I power on the computer (because you have to be even quicker than in the past) I started tapping the F12 key and on the screen that appeared (boot device menu) I selected the usb drive that was listed (in my case a Kingston) and hit enter. When the pc started there were 3 options and selected the one for the Acronis 2015 and it booted to the rescue media.
I did eventually find information in a downloaded Dell XPS 8700 owner's manual in the section for Changing Boot Sequence. You might want to check out manualslib.com for the manual for your computer to see if the process is the same for you computer since it might be different.
