creating image from Windows

Thread needs solution

It is not quite clear to me if "disk backup" and "disk image" is the same in Acronis terminology. Actually, I'm looking for confirmation if I start Acronis True Image Home 2012 from Windows and create "disk backup" and DO NOT use option "sector by sector" that it creates an image of the disk (rather than creating backup of disk files and folders).
Reason for this is my vague recollection (I leave room that I may be wrong) that when I was starting some previous versions of Acronis (a few years ago) that Windows would shut down and boot PC in Linux mode (Acronis loader). This is not happening now, since it seems that Acronis runs and performs "disk backup" staying under Windows all the time.
So, I tend to use my recovery disk and boot PC with Acronis loader and create disk image that way.

Luckily, I haven't got need to restore my image so far, but would like to know if that happens, that I do have a true image and not collection of files and folders.
Is it really possible to create a disk image while you have Windows running?
Or should I rest assure that running "disk backup" from Windows creates image that could be restored later on?

thanks & regards

Yes. Select the "disk X" checkbox, which will automatically select all partitions in that disk.

Then, boot from Recovery Media and restore a few files, just to make sure everything works on your hardware.

If you want to do a full and complete backup of all partitions from within Windows, here is a link showing you how. Don't forget to validate the image. If you choose the "disk mode" image, it can be used top restore your system or restore to a new disk. As Tuttle has stated, It is always wise to test your backup occasionally by doing some test file restores.
