Creating a mirror image of my primary frive

Thread needs solution

I wish to make a mirror/clone image of my primary drive. When I select Disk Utilities and then Clone I'm asked to ID my "old" disk and I don't know if they mean my primary drive (C:\) or the drive I want to backup/clone to: Can you help me out?

Thanks, Uncle Dewey

There is a big difference between backing up and cloning.

Backing up allows you to create one or several images of the data on your disk, so that you can restore your system where it was before a major failure (including having to replace the disk).

Cloning makes an exact copy of the entire disk. It is a process much riskier than backing up and restoring.

If you want to be able to restore your disk, do a backup onto a USB disk.

If you want to clone, read attentively the cloning guide in Grover's True Image guides (see link on the left navigation panel of this forum)

Question: When using "Acronis True Image 2014", and a "full" backup is made, does it also backup the operating system and programs or just data files? Do I have to upgrade to a more expensive service to backup the operating system, Windows 8 Pro 64-bit?

Thomas,
Look at signature link 2 below and look at the very first picture.

If you click the "select disk mode" option, this option will cause you to create a "disk image" backup and everything on the disk will be included. This type backup can then be used to recover your existing system or to restore to a new replacement disk.
