I would like to understand that how we should handle data backup. I agree that TI is best for system image. But do you guys also use TI for data backup. Pls share your thoughts and strategies.

Acronisfan,

There are different philosophies and preferences.

Anyway, with ATI you have a full set of solutions for data backup. You can use a combination of these backup technologies to cover your needs.

- Use a file backup to complement a disk and partition backup that doesn't run often enough or doesn't cover certain disk/partitions,
- Use a non-stop backup to complement a disk and partition backup or a file backup that doesn't run frequently enough to capture intermediary versions of selected files.

You should have a backup strategy with redundancy and protection of the backup files. Use different tasks to backup to different media, or copy archives to some other media from time to time and make sure you take some of these media off-site for protection.

For irreplaceable content (things you just cannot buy/download/install again, like personal pictures, videos, art, etc.), copy the files using Windows from time to time to another media and take this media offsite, *and/or* use an online backup to complement your local backup.

IMO, it doesn't make sense to stuff files that are already compressed and don't change much (like PDF, pictures, music, videos, movies, etc.) in a proprietary file format like a TIB file. If the TIB file is corrupted, you lose *all* your content. For file backup, you could use a ZIP container with no compression (this option is available in ATI) but you need to make sure you can open the ZIP files with a regular ZIP reader. Since ZIP is a published format, at least you have a chance to look into the file if something wrong happen.

My personal preference is to use sync software for these files. I like Syncback SE because it has a lot of features to control what and how each file is synched. ATI offers a simple sync option.
