Data recovery of Acronis true image backup/archive files. (tib)

Thread needs solution

I recently had a drive catastrophe caused by the town's shady non-Otaku, but smelly, wannabe tech formatting designated data drive and proceeding to install Windows. The result was loss of data because that drive had all the backups and the wannabe tech also formatted the previous C:, but I believe he used a wipe utility to do so.

I'm looking for suggestions for capable applications that can restore Acronis true image files without fail. I've attempted to use R-Studio for this, but it appears the potentially is a bug causing injection of data to recovered files that is not supposed to be there causing the file to be corrupt. Details on that here:
http://forum.r-tt.com/recovery-of-acronis-true-image-backup-archive-fil…

As mentioned in my R-Studio forum post I know there are Acronis fies to recover because the file signatures are there. I'm looking for an alternative because my patience with R-Studio has grown thin while a potential bug is resolved.
Any suggestions? I prefer OS compatibility in this order:
Linux
Windows
Mac

I'm not wiling to pay for subscription utilities that have an annual cost. I've also tried photorec without success.

Hello Sn3akyP3t3,

Thank you for posting your question in our Forum.

Please understand that we only can support recovery operations that you run with Acronis products. To be able to do this, you first have to know which product was used to create the archive. In your account, I saw, that you have registered Acronis True Image Home 2012. Where you able to use this product to mount, open or recover the archive?

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Acronis True Image version 8 was used to create archives at the time of the casualty. The archives are not listed by the existing file system and therefore not accessible because the drive was formatted.

What I'm trying to achieve is:
1.) Data recovery of acronis.tib files (File carving and data recovery tools)
2.) Validation of recovered acronis.tib integrity

The recovered archives appear to be corrupt when using R-Studio. The file corruption appears to be faulted by R-Studio so I'm looking for an alternative or waiting for the application to be corrected by their developers, whichever comes first.

Hello Sn3akyP3t3,

Thank you for your reply.

If the validation fails, the archive may become corrupted. You can follow the suggestions in this article to troubleshoot these archives.

When your archives are corrupted by third party software, we unfortunately cannot fix this.

For any reason you should only use Acronis software to work with and recover from Acronis backup archives.

If there is anything else, we can do for you, please let me know.

Thank you.

There was no corruption during creation of these archives.

Unfortunately, Acronis doesn't make any data recovery applications that will dump data from a dying, formatted, or corrupt hard drive so I'm left to use 3rd party tools. Your definition of recover is not the same as mine in this sense. I first need to acquire the .tib files from the otherwise inaccessible hard drive with a 3rd party tool and then I can begin to work with it in Acronis.

Sn3akyP3t3,

You may not be successful in restoring/recovering the files from the formatted / erased disk. Acronis .tib files are very intolerant to any changes in the file. Even a single bit that has changed will cause the .tib file to no longer work as expected.

Unless you pay to have the data recovered professionally. or buy a software product that can do a better job of recovering your data http://www.krollontrack.com/data-recovery/recovery-software from the formatted drive, you may be out of luck getting these .tib files back in good working condition.

Hi!

I have an Acronis True Image 2016 installed in my desktop computer. I would like to retrieve files from an External Drive which I could not access.

When I inserted the failing External Drive to my desktop, something popped out "Format this drive first before using". If I do format the drive, will I be able to retriece the files inside?

Thank you for whatever support you may extend.

Arman

Arman, welcome to these User Forums.

If your external drive is not being recognised as formatted by your computer / Windows OS then taking the option to format the drive will also delete any backup files stored on that drive.

I would suggest trying the drive on different computers if you have access to such and see if it can be recognised on one of them.  When you are able to see the drive and its contents, then check to see how it is formatted and that this is supported on your original computer?

Please note that there is a separate Acronis True Image 2016 Forum that would be better suited for any further question than this forum which is for obsolete products.
