Defagmentierung

Thread needs solution

Hello Uwe,

Thank you for posting and welcome to the Acronis forum. I will certainly help you with your question.

It is not an issue doing disk defragmentation before a full backup. Please note, that if you decide to perform defragmentation or some other indexing task on your hard drive prior to an incremental/differential backup they will turn out as large as a full one. Please check this article for more information and if you need additional help please let me know.

Thank you.

Uwe,
This is not much to gain trying to defragment the disk where your backups are, and much to lose. Although the defragmentation software typically use the Windows API to move the blocks, there are several cases where a simple file copy prevented a copied TIB file to validate properly. A failed validation doesn't mean that the restore will fail, but why take the risk?

If I were you, I would not defragment the drive where the backup are stored.

Thank you for your advise
Uwe
