delete tib files

Thread needs solution

I used the same task to create two backups on different occasions. However, I appended the date to each backup and this created two different tib files in the same Backup folder. Now when I use "consolidate versions" I get the error message that two backup versions are required. Why is this? Can I go into the backup disk and manually delete the old tib file I no longer need? Can I use Acronis to delete unwanted backup files?

You have several options.
My first suggestion would be to stop using this task (change to non-scheduled) and create a new task with different settings so that the deletion would be automatic and controlled by the program.

You can add " -%date%- "yourself to the intended tib file name as part of the task creation process so each new backup file would automatically contain the date of the backup.

The examples below show how to accomplish this.

How to change a scheduled backup task to "Do Not Schedule".

How to create a non-scheduled backup on the first try.

Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. 6 Inc, Keep 4 chains.

Custom Differential Backup Scheme. 2 Diff, Keep 2 chains.

Custom Full Backup Scheme.Keep 4 versions (chains).

how to delete backup files within the program using Acronis Backup 'Explorer'

Remove Single Task from Task Menu Listing

How to create custom folder/tib file name.

Alternate options include

1. Due to the name change, the computer does not recognize renamed files as part of the task. These renamed files can be deleted via Windows Explorer.

2. or, you can rename the files back to their exact original name (TI not running during the rename) and hopefully, the program would re-recognize and allow you to use the program to do the deletion from inside the program.
Your log files can provide information about their original name.

3. One rule I practice that I do not edit or change settings for an existing task (except a change of schedule which can be done from the main menu without opening the task for edits.

4. I assign a different storage folder to each different task so there is no mixing of backup files.

5. I refuse to use any option which involves consolidation. I feel consolidation is like a 1000 piece puzzle and the programmer has to try and fit each piece in its proper place--when all pieces look alike. My preference is to use Automatic cleanup so no consolidation is needed.
