deleting backup stays on screen
I have acronis 2014 latest version. I am running Windows Vista. I am trying to delete a full backup(61.78 gb) on an external usb hardrive. It says there are 16 versions. I right key press and select delete. It says deleting backup and I let it go from 4:15pm to 8:30am. Nothing happened it just keeps saying deleting backup. I restarted it this morning and am trying again. How do I get this to work. All I can think of is perhaps something is running in the background. Maybe the virus protecetion needs to be turned off or something like that.
Thank you,
JoshuaE
Oh, I checked the external usb drive for any errors and there are none. I have three acronis backups on this external hard drive (usb.)

Thanks for the help Steve! I am still having difficulties. I found the proper .tis file. I deleted it and checked the app and it was still there. I did a diferent one for practice and it vansihed as it was supposed to.
I am really having trouble with removing this backup. It is diferent in nature as its location is just / where the others are in a more proper folder : F:\mybackups...
Can you help me? It is about 60 gb, maybe I just leave it, not sure.
The other computer has the same copy and it validated (just one version, not 16 though.)
I rebooted too.
Can you help me please?
JoshuaE
Also, when I click on the location for the copy it can't find the folder/files.

Joshua, the other possibility here is that you have a scheduled task associated with the task that you can't delete, so I would recommend using the Acronis Scheduler Manager program to clean out this task.
See KB document: 1859: Acronis Scheduler Manager - download the schedmgr.exe program, run this as Administrator which will open a command prompt type window. Type the command get list to show a listing of all scheduled tasks - you can check the actual task names by comparing against the scripts .TIS file names in the Scripts folder. Type the command task zap to clean out all scheduled tasks.

Hmm that didn't work either. Maybe I format the drive or leave it on the drive and not use it. like I said though it validated on the other computer.
Do you suggest formatting the drive or maybe reinstaliing the acronis.
Or any other attempts would be great.
Is reinstalling very difficult though.
Thanks again,

Joshua, the other suggestion you could try before going for a reinstall etc, would be to rename the Acronis Database folder and see if this help remove this stubborn task.
To rename the database folder, you need to stop all active Acronis Services and Processes which you can do by first opening the Services.msc console (click on Start, then type Services.msc in the search prompt) - look for the Acronis services and right-click on each and click on Stop.
Next, open the Windows Task Manager (right-click on the bottom status bar then on Task Manager) - again find any active Acronis programs and right-click to End the process.
Now in Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ and then rename the Database folder there to Database.OLD
You can then restart the main ATIH 2014 application which will restart the Services and Processes again.

Okay that seemed to do it. I added my two full backups and it looks okay. Now I just remove the script tib files and delete the .tib images as far as unwanted backups go?
As far as the two windows backups I assume I delete the script and remove them and what is their extension?
Finally, I am not remembering how the other computer is populated. It has its own local scipts I assume and how did it know about what I put on in the other computer?
Is it normal that one computer will show more versions than one if it is on that computer and only one if its on a diferent computer?
Thank you again,

Joshua, you should not need to have to remove script files etc. If Acronis is working correctly you can just select the backup task and take the option to Delete it from there.
There are several reasons why your second computer might hold information about the backups from the first computer - if you use an Acronis Cloud account then this shares such information - or if you are using the same external backup drive for both computers then Acronis can pick up on the other backups held on that drive and show them on this computer too.

Another question: I noticied earlier that when a computer is being used that has its own copy than it can display a version number greater than one. But when a diferent computer is used from the copy than this same copy version usually says one. Is this the proper working order?

I now have three diferent copies for my three computers. They are on one external usb drive, so do I make each copy having a bootable media in the check box?
When I do have diferential and incremental are they going to need a choice about media too? If so, which?
And the image is always of all of the drives of the computer, for example even a Recovery drive, or a fat 16 unamed partition(.1 gb)

Joshua, when you are using the same external backup drive for multiple different computers, then I would recommend having a separate folder for the backups from each different computer.
For example: Computer A backs up to the X:\ComputerA\ backup folder, Computer B to the X:\ComputerB folder etc - this will make life much simpler than mixing all your backups together in the one folder.
The other recommendation here is to ensure that your backup task names are also unique and where possible identify the computer they are created from, i.e. ComputerA_entire_PC; ComputerB_entire_PC etc.
Keeping things separate and easily identifiable will help you to identify each of the backup versions and be able to check that all is running smoothly.

Hi Steven, could you answer number 9 please? Do you want me to send you a check? If you do, email me.
Thanks again it was interesting,

Joshua, sorry but I thought that I had answered your post #9 with my reply in post #10.
In terms of bootable media, this should be kept separate to your backups - you cannot make your external USB drive to be bootable using ATIH 2014 - the bootable media is the Acronis Rescue Media that you should create on CD or DVD or USB memory stick. Once you have made the Rescue Media you should test that this works on all three of your computers, one copy should work for all three computers.
See my reply in post #10 for the other questions asked in your post #9.
I would recommend that you edit your last post and remove your email address unless you want to attract lots of spam emails as this is a public forum open for anyone to harvest personal information like this.

So I just make an image of all the drives even if they are fat or recovery or unamed?
Thank you,
Joshua.

Joshua, making an image of your entire drive, including any hidden partitions is the safest option in case of needing to recover in the future. Some of the hidden partitions such as the System Reserved and EFI partitions (if the latter is present) are essential to enable the system to boot successfully into Windows.
