Deleting Protected Files after a Test of Acronis File Recovery

Thread needs solution

I am running Windows 7 professional. After making a full backup of my boot drive, I decided to test the file recovery option. I chose File Recovery and recovered all files from the backup to a new location on an external USB drive (in a directory labeled "tmp").

I then tried to delete all files in "tmp." Unfortunately many files are protected and cannot be deleted. Acronis refused to shred these files. Then I booted the computer into Acronis via a USB drive to attempt deleting the files. However the booted version of Acronis offers to cleanse the entire drive, but does not offer the option of deleting individual files.

I then spent much time changing ownership, permissions, etc without success.

I could not find an option to boot Windows 7 into Safe Mode.

Any suggestions?
