Deletion of old backup versions

Thread needs solution

I have set a backup scheme to create a full backup after several incrementals but I forgot to set it to delete the old versions.

This means I have b1_s1_v1 through to b1_s6_v1.

I now have b2_s1_v1.

How do I delete the old b1 versions without deleting the latest b2 versions? Can I just delete them in File Explorer or will this create problems. I know backups should normally be deleted using ATI.

Syd, which version of Acronis True Image are you using - that may make a difference to the answer given?

Normally I would say that you can go ahead and delete any full version chains via Windows Explorer if needed and it shouldn't cause a problem if you have not set any automatic cleanup or consolidation rules.

A full version chain is the initial full_bx... image and all associated inc_bx... or diff_bx images that follow it.

When you have deleted the version chain with Explorer, I would advise running a validation of the backup task to ensure that all is 'happy' with the files that are now left - if you are given any messages for missing images, you can then tell Acronis to ignore those and continue the validation.

Thanks Steve. I am still on 13.

That is as I thought. I made the mistake once of deleting a backup outside of ATI and it caused all sorts of problems. Good idea about the validation.

Once again thanks.
