Dell Optiplex drivers

Thread needs solution

I can do a universal restore of a backup from same to same (dell optiplex 380) but not to different (optiplex 380 to optiplex 3020)- I get stuck in a boot loop. I am concluding that the problem is driver related.

However Dell packages all its drivers in exe files. I assume that I need to extract the exe files and then pull all the infs for each component to their own folder which I make available to the restore process or should I pull the infs and surrounding files to a folder or is there another way I should be doing this?

Get a copy of 7zip, which Dell uses to make those EXE files, and extract the EXE archives to get the drivers you need.

Thank you David for taking the time to reply but the question deals with the recovery process and where/what it expects those files to be.

When you use universal restore, there is an option, with a browse button, to feed the restore those INF files you extract from the Dell EXE driver packs.

Thanks David, I've tried that. Looks like the chipset driver doesn't have the correct file types because its not accepting it when I build the disk. I have a contact at Dell I'll ask to provide me with an inf (or other accepted file type if they have it).

Hello,

Which restore disk type are you creating, because there are 2? Your choice are:

#1 - Linux based restore disk
#2 - WinPE based restore disk

Have you tried both types? When I have a failure of the Linux type, I go to the WinPE type and usually that gets it.
