differential backup
Unless I misunderstand completely I am having a big problem with differential backup. My understanding is that you first make a regular disk image backup. Then you run an differential backup which only backs up files that were added or changed since the image backup. You only need to keep the last good diff backup with the image backup. If you need to do recovery you apply the image backup and then the diff backup.
My problem is as follows: do image backup 78G 1:10:02. Then 'try' to do a differential backup. Problem is it takes longer 1:22:50 and the backup file is 43G. This is impossible if working correctly from both a size and time aspect.
Could someone please explain what my problem is or is the software bad.
P.S. Windows 7 acronis 10. Please don't tell me I need to upgrade.

Acronis who? How the heck would I tell? One of Acronis's poorer features. Abnormal screen layout. Where will I find. Also, it is 2010, the version should not make any difference.
Within 30 minutes. Why?
Thanks

The version does make a difference because a lot of people write "TI 10" and mean "TI 2010". TI 10 is a old version, but still used quite a lot. The Help > About screen shows the version and build number.
The time between backups can help determine if changes may have actually taken place. When only a short period of time passes, the size of the Differential should be small. I assume no defrag or other major disk activity took place during the 30 minutes.
Did you create the backup from in Windows? If you create a Differential using the TI CD, does it also come very large?
Did this only happen once or does it happen every time?

Hey Mudcrab,
Thanks for trying to help. First it is True Image Home 2010. I can not find this Help About icon. I looked for before and again now. All I have across top of splash screen is backup, recovery, tools and utilities.
This is the second time I tried this because the same thing just happened, so I made sure everything was pure. I was flabbergasted by the time and size of the diff. No changes, no disk defrag, nothing. Just a fresh image backup and then a differential.
Did not try doing a backup from the CD. Should not need to. This work is for a potential customer of TI after my suggestion. They will do an occasional image backup and then do differentials. That is if I can get it to work correctly.
This has happened the two times I tried. As far as I am concerned it should not have. Unless I am doing something incorrectly which I do not believe I am. That is the reason I wrote. It is me or the software. Trying to determine which.
