Differential backups in TIH 2009

Thread needs solution

Hi - How do I setup a daily differential backup that saves only the last backup?

Thanks.

Hello Wooleysdad,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

When you create a schedule task set in automatic consolidation window Number of Backups to Exceed equal 2. As a result you will have to backup archives one full backup and one differential backup, every new differential will be overwritten.

Dmitry  - This is all fine, but...doesn't consolidation take as long as a full backup.

Let's say you do a full back up on 50GB and it takes 2 hours. Then you do a differential backup that takes 10 minutes. If the next backup is a consolidation won't that also take around 2 hours?

My dives are actually much bigger. I don't need to be doing huge backups every other day, plus I don't need to keep more than the last differential.

Can you tell me why my old pre command bat file does not work anymore (see below)? It worked in TIH 11 for my diff backups. This allowed me to run diff backups every day and always have only one. They were all named *2.tib, so the DEL command worked.

my old pre command bat file from TIH 11: C DRIVE DIFFERENTIAL BACKUP.bat

if exist "P:\C DRIVE BACKUP FOLDER\C DRIVE FULL BACKUP2.tib" DEL "P:\C DRIVE BACKUP FOLDER\C DRIVE FULL BACKUP2.tib"

Dmitry  - thanks very much for your patience!
