Difficulties moving Acrons True Image 2012 to a new computer

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Last year I purchased and used True IMage 2012 successfully on my old computer. Now I want to move it over to my new computer, but I only have one license.

How do I do that? I do not need the software on the old computer anymore. I copies the Acronis directory from the old computer to the new, but the program does not want to start up. I am doing something wrong.

Please advise! Thanks very much in advance,
HD

You just need to uninstall ATI 2012 from your old computer and reinstall it on your new computer. You can download the installer from your Acronis.com account, in the product download area, which will make the installer available after you have registered your serial number.

Thanks for the info, Pat. - So, unistalling will somehow report that the serial number is "free" again. I'll try that tomorrow and then get the installer for my new computer.

Hans-Dieter,

Not quite, if the activation process recognises it has been installed previously it will offer you th eoption of moving the activation to a new PC, select this and it will deactivate your old system details and replace them with the new ones.

Thank you, Colin,

So, I re-download ATI 2012 onto my new computer? Then use the activation code from the old computer, during the installation/authorization process there is an option to "move" the license ? Is that what you're saying? -- Is there a download link for ATI 2012 -- or can I use ATI 2013 trial verion instead (that one I found on the web).

Sorry for still being a bit confused. Thanks for the help.

Update: I downloaded ATI 2013 ... and tried to install it with my old key, but it did not except it. So now I am running with the 30 day trial key.

What should my next step be?

Thank you very much,
HD

Remember, when you install the 2013 upgrade, you first enter the 2013 key number, then the installer will recognize it is a key for an upgrade and ask you the 2012 number. First 2013, then 2012.

Hi Pat,

Darn, so 2013 is NOT the same as 2012. See, I couldn't find a download location for 2012, so I hoped that 2013 is downward compatible. :-(

I am not sure I need, or want, or pay for, the functionality of 2013. All I need it to move the thing (ati 12 that is) over from my old system to my new one. - So, where can I please find a download site for ati 2012.

Thanks,
HD

Hans-Dieter,

You should be able to download 2012 from your Acronis account, however you will have had to register your serial number there first.

I was finally able to download ATI 2012 from my account, BUT got a "runtime error" when I tried to execute it.

So, finally and reluctantly I coughed up the additional $20 and upgraded to the ATI2013 version, which runs fine on my system now.

Not really a good migration experience I must say!!

:-( :-( :-(

Well, unless I missed it you never told us your operating system. If Windows 8, no ATI version is compatible other than ATI2013.

Thanks for chiming in Tuttle,

... it is Win7 ... and nobody pointed out that it might not work on Win7

... and "Runtime Error" is a rather cryptic error message. Doesn't tell much, does it?

I hope someone official from Acronis will read this, and make some documentation or installation changes, because other users might run into similarily frustrating migration problems.

Hello everyone!

Hans-Dieter, thank you for posting!

Hans-Dieter, Acronis True Image 2012 and True Image 2013 by Acronis support all editions of Windows 7 operating system.

Most likely the reason of this error message: "runtime error" is that the downloaded file was corrupted.

Hans-Dieter, I advice you the following: Please disable any antivirus programs and try to download installation file again. Also you can check if the downloaded file is corrupted. In this article you will find complete information how to calculate it's checksum and compare downloaded file with the original one.

Hans – Dieter, If you have any additional questions please let me know.

Thank you!
