Disastrous experience with ver 14.0.0.6868

Thread needs solution

I have been using ATI ver 9 successfully for many years, but after changing the motherboard on my computer it then failed to read the hard drive where the backups are stored although the SATA drives were set as IDE in the BIOS. It seems that when it drops back to the Linux to install the boot partition then the drive cannot be seen.

In view of that I d/l and installed the demo version 14.0.0.6868.

First of all it is a terrible interface - gone is the simplicity of ver 9. However I managed in the end to steer it to the backup up I wanted - it was created with ver 9. Normally a restore takes around 90 seconds, but this version took over 45 minutes and at least 10 minutes of that the progress was showing "Less than 1 minute remaining" and 98% complete. Disk activity had all but stopped. I left it a bit longer but in the end there was nothing to do but stop it, of course not a good thing to do.

I then rebooted and it would not boot so instead booted from the ver 9 boot disk, however it was unable to see the disk partitions. On further inspection it seems that the whole partition structure had been destroyed. Fortunately using other software I have been able to rebuild the partition table.

I will now been staying away from Acronis - don't want to go through this again and don't like the interface enough to try again.

I am just writing this as I don't want others to suffer the same experience.
