Disheartened and switching
Hello to everyone,
Let me just say up front that I truly appreciate the many times that ATI has saved my bacon! Let me also say how much I've appreciated all the help I've received from the members of the Acronis forum! Further, I do not mean this post to be disrespectful to anyone on this forum or to Acronis nor to bash ATI, though I'm afraid it will sound that way.
I've been using ATI home now for several years starting with ATI home v10. I currently own 2 copies of v10, 3 copies of v11 and one copy of 2009. I'm still using v10 on my second pc running 32 bit Vista Ultimate.
I've watched my beloved ATI become more and more bloated with new "features" with each release. Features for which I really have no use. The one feature that had me absolutely hooked was the ability to set a schedule for automatic, full backups and have ATI delete older backups based on my criteria. That feature disappeared with the release of ATIH 2009 and remains gone in the latest release.
What I want to get across to Acronis is this, what I want in imaging software is for it to make an image of my hard drive. I want as much reliability as I can get, as few bugs as possible and as much control as possible over how and when those images are made.
If I want my hard drive scrubbed, my dog walked or my car washed, either I'll do it myself or I have other utilities to take care of that.
For the last couple of weeks I've been testing Norton Ghost 15. This was a huge decision for me for two reasons. First, I did not want to leave Acronis. Second, I left Norton some years ago after using their products since the dos days BECAUSE OF THE BLOAT they had built into their software.
But after testing Ghost 15 I find that all it does is IMAGE my hard drive! Yes, it will do incrementals and differentials, and it offers online backups, none of which I'll use, but it also offers me the ability to schedule automatic full only backups with limits and then it carries out those backups without any attention needed by me..........just like Acronis used to do.
In other words, I like Ghost better than ATIH 2009 and I'm going to switch to it on this computer which is my new home built running 32 bit Windows 7 Pro.
Just a heads up to Acronis, it's very difficult to get a customer back once you've lost them. It's also difficult to continue replacing loyal customers that you've lost.
Like I said I'm still using v10 on my other pc and may upgrade it to v11 and so will still be visiting this forum. But I'll probably give away my other copies of ATIH 10 and 11 to folks still running XP or Vista who have a need for a great imaging program!
Please rethink your corporate strategy Acronis. World class imaging software is too hard to come by!
Thanks,
Larry
