Disk does not clone after reboot

Thread needs solution

Hello!

I just purchased a new SSD to replace an old SSD, and I'm hoping to clone the disk to use the new one to boot.

Unfortunately, I'm having issues with the cloning process.  I open Acronis, select "Clone Disk," and select "Automatic."  I select my old SSD, which is connected internally, as the "Source Disk."  Then I select my new empty SSD, which is connected via SATA to USD cord, as my Destination Disk.  When I finish, the program prompts me to reboot, and I select the "Restart" option.

However, upon restarting, Windows 10 starts up completely normally.  When I check back in with my new SSD, there is still no data on it - it's completely empty.  What can I do to fix this?

Robert, welcome to these user forums.

If you have obtained a copy of Acronis True Image when you bought your new SSD drive, then please understand that this is an OEM version and most likely to be an older version of the product.  See KB document: 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products

Next, the recommended method of performing cloning is to always use the Acronis bootable Rescue Media that should be created on either CD or USB memory stick, then boot from this to do the clone.

See webpage: Check if your PC uses UEFI or BIOS - this is important as the Rescue Media should be booted in the same mode as your Windows OS.

It is strongly recommended that you make a full disk drive backup of your current SSD drive before attempting to clone it - this is a safety net in case anything goes wrong!

See KB document: 48386: Acronis True Image 2015: Cloning Disks for details about the requirements and steps for performing cloning, where the recommended method is to remove the current SSD, replace this with the new SSD, attach the current SSD externally via a USB to SATA adapter, then boot from the Rescue Media and check that both drives can be seen correctly.  Perform the clone then shutdown, remove the rescue media and disconnect the original SSD before attempting to boot the new SSD into Windows.  Do not boot with both drives connected as this can corrupt Windows or the bootloader by having two drives with the same disk signature.
