Thread needs solution

After studying a number of reviews I was persuaded that Acronis True Image was the most reliable back-up software available and was a “set and forget” system that would protect my data. I was also convinced that should I ever need to restore from back up it would simplify the process.

I purchased Acronis True Image in September 2009. Since that time I have one major issue which I am unable to resolve:

· The software will often show that the external hard drive is full requiring me to delete previous back-ups.
I have a 1000 GB hard drive with only 89 GB of data and back up to a 300 GB external hard drive.

Unless there is a flaw in the software I must be setting up the system incorrectly. Is there a way that I can set up the software so that old back ups are overwritten?

I am using MS Widows XP SP3.
