Disk Full message for destination that should be adequate

Thread needs solution

hello,

I have just downloaded the trial version of ATIH 2012 to try out. I attempted a full backup of my C: drive (NTSF) to place it on my D: drive, also NTSF. It is a completely separate drive (not a partition) and the only other drive I have.

The source was listed at 392Gb and with compression: 296Gb

Destination showed 524Gb free.

All these figures in ATIH agreed with the figures reported by Windows (Windows 7, 64bit Pro) except for the compressed number, of course.

3 1/2 hours into the back-up I recieved a "Disk Full" message from ATIH 2012.

Where should I look for an explanation and solution?

Thanks

Check disk backup option, that the notify if short of space isn't set in gigabytes instead of megabytes.

The notification was set at 100Mb. Even if it was 100Gb, there still should have been enough space.

At any rate, I tried to start "Windows Backup & Restore" but Acronis came back up instead. So I uninstalled Acronis. However now I cannot start "Windows Backup & Restore" at all. All attempts to invoke Win B&R are completely unresponsive. Obviously Acronis ATIH 2012 changed something in my OS during install and did not change it back during the uninstall.

Due to the failure of ATIH 2012 to work properly on my system and its failure to reset my OS to the way it was found, I am now left with no way to do back-ups at all, except by straight file copying.

The only good thing to have come of this was the discovery of of ATIH 2012's shortcomings before spending $50

Hi
This should solve the problem with the windows backup & Restore, its a known problem, but i think you will have to reinstall acronis & then apply the fix for it to work.

If the above fix doesnt help then have a look at this thread

If, integrate with Windows has been selected at any point, it needs to be deslected in TIH before uninstalling TIH otherwise registry will not contain the correct information.

As far as the disk space is concerned, 1GB free might cause an error message if consolidation is part of the task, as a copy of the archive is made whilst consolidation takes place, this of course requires free space of almost the original archive size.

It might also be worthwhile running chkdsk /r on the disk, just to make sure there is nothing that could confuse the Acronis snapshot manager.

Thank you for these links. I appreciate the help I'm getting from this forum which certainly makes the application more attractive.

OK,

I did re-install ATIH 2012 and started it up to re-enable Windows Back-up & Restore. I followed all scrteen instructions, clicked all the proper Apply buttons and closed and re-opened the Control panel as instructed, repeatedly...but Acronis ATIH simply would NOT leave the Control Panel / Back-up & Restore. Each time I opened the Options box in ATIH the top check-box to Intergrate ATIH with B-up & Res was always checked, even though I always unchecked it and hit Apply.

So I finally tried to un-install ATIH again but the uninstall screen informed me that "No Acronis ATIH 2012 Components can be Found" or words to that effect.

So, downloaded and ran the ATIH 2012 Clean-up Utility which has, thankfully, exterminated ATIH 2012. But Windows B & R still does not function.

There apparently is a solution to this involving changing some Registry entries. I downloaded the file for this which is a zipped file ending in .reg
I have no idea how to use this file. Is it pasted into the Registry? I have no experience with mucking around in the Registry.

I see a lot of other people are still having the same problem even though it was supposed to be "fixed" in the latest versions. Acronis needs to provide some adequate help since this is not a trivial problem and puts our hard drives in jepardy.

What registry file did you download and can you provide the link?

To merge a reg file into registry just double click on it.

Ah did you mean a registry file to restore the Microsoft backup entries?

It is the 14741 link provided by Pete Railton in one of the previous replies in this thread.

near the bottom of the link is a Files/Download section with a file called winintegrationfix.zip
