Disk space lost unless wipe ATI image

Thread needs solution

I am a happy user of Acronis True Image and Disk Doctor, although I found the latest versions not so straightforward.
I am always so pleased to have acronised (that word should be added to the dictionary) the boot partition and data.
I do not use the fancy features: no incremental backup, no secure zone.

I have searched in this forum for answers but I could not find anything.

Here is the issue:
When I want to delete an Acronis image (let say 10 GB) with the regular Windows delete function, I have noticed that Windows XP does not show that the space of the deleted file is available again (the 10 GB disk space is lost!)
The solution is to wipe the Acronis Image to free up its space.
I would appreciate if someone can share his/her experience and provide some explanation or a solution.

Thanks again for the support.

Hello Maurice,

Thank you for your post. I will definitely assist you with this issue.

If I am not mistaken, you are using the File Shredder component in our software which permanently deletes the files thus allowing you to retain your space.

If I understood correctly, most likely the Windows recycle bin is not emptied after you selected to delete the file. The Windows recycle bin stores the files in case they were deleted by accident so that you can either recover them or delete them permanently.

If there is anything else I can do please let me know.

Thank you.

Thanks Anton!

When reading your message, I have a doubt: did I empty the recycle bin!?
I am almost sure you are right otherwise I would have found the topic on this forum.

Since I thought the files was erased but its space has been lost, the only way to free up this space is to format the partition on which was stored the ATI archive.
For that, I have a fantastic tool that can easily create, resize, delete partitions.
I can only recommend it: Acronis Disk Director Suite ;-D

Have a great weekend

Maurice

Oups !!
My apology!

Anton, (I am currently joking), your were almost right because I did not have to empty the recycle bin ! I guess since the file was about 20 GB it has been erased immediately.

So, I did what I wrote and the result was beyond my hopes. The Windows delete works perfectly.
I do not know what happened before, may be the file was still in the recycle bin, may be too much schnapps...

You can certainly discard this whole topic because it may mislead your customers.

Again, I am sorry and thanks to be Acronis
Sincerely,

Maurice
