Does Acronis True Image do it ?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I've been away from disk-imaging products for a long time now, and we're currently deploying computers in some very specific conditions (boarded in airplanes for technical purposes).

Those computers boot on some external Flashdisks we plug before flights, the first is the " C " with the system, the secondary is the " D ", for data.

The last thing i used for such disk-imaging, was Norton Ghost, years ago, where i used to boot on a floppy disk, to image a customer partly defective hard disk to a new one, so i'm not quite aware of how things work today, or if these work differently.

Here's what i need :
- Some software you start/boot from an external peripheral (CD, USB Key/Disk).
- NOTHING can be installed on the system disk of the computer meant to be " saved / imaged ".

In fact, can Acronis work totally " out of the system ", booting from the CD or from an USB storage device by itself, then allowing me to save the Flashdisks as images on some external peripheral ?

What kind of licensing is necessary (one license per computer saved, or just one for the software ?) if it is possible, as the system (as the old floppy ghost) will just boot by itself (and won't be installed in the system, which is not a choice, but an obligation). It's not a matter of money, just a matter of legality (if 20 licenses are necessary, we'll buy 20, or more, if one is necessary, then we'll just buy one).

Thanks in advance !

This kind of question is probably best directed to Acronis sales/customer support.

Sorry, thought some would know " by experience ", so that i could avoid the commercial blabla of a reseller.
I'll contact the customer support.

Have a good day !

I'm not exactly sure what you want to achieve. But I do know that Acronis allows only one computer per licence. True Image does have a bootable CD which has the basic Backup, Recovery, and Clone features on it. You can also have the features of the CD on a bootable USB flash drive, if the computer will boot off a flash drive. You can also deploy the same Image to several systems.

You've got it DwnNDrty :
I want the " Backup / Recovery / Clone " functions for these computers, but without installing anything on these. So, booting from an external peripheral is my only solution. It seems to be possible as you said.

If we have to buy as many licenses as many computers we have is not a matter, thanks for the information :)

Commercial licensing might yield diff arrangements than are standardly offered for home use. Also note that the Boot Cd loads ATI into memory (at least with most versions of the iso) and theoretically, one could operate ATI on the boot disk as well as other machine disks, but it's probably best to check with Acronis to confirm -- and you probalby want to see what they can do for you in terms of licensing anyway.
