Don't have permission to access folder

Thread needs solution

I recently upgraded True Image on Win8.1 to 2015 build 6525 and I'm trying to access old Vista and Win8.1 backups located on an external drive. I find I can mount a year old 8.1 backup and view the data files and folders within it. I can also mount a 2013 Vista backup but, when I try to open the administrative user folder, I get

'You don't currently have permission to access this folder.
Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder.'

If I click Continue, I get

'You have been denied permission to open this folder.
To gain access to this folder, you will need to use the security tab'.

If I click on the security tab (link), I get taken to the properties display for the administrative user folder where I am advised to click on the Advanced button to get Read permissions to view the folder's properties. The Advanced settings show the correct folder name but also

'Unable to display current owner'.

Trying to proceed from this point is taking me right out of my depth.

Can anyone advise me what I need to do here, please?

This link should help. The first part describes how to change ownership of system files but continuing on in the article file permissions are discussed which should give you the info you need.
