Downloaded the latest ISO image, got "has not found any hard disk drive" error

Thread needs solution

I'm using True Image Home 2010, couldn't recover disk image for my Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop. Downloaded the latest ISO image, booted from optical drive, after the Acronis logo and Loading, please wait... I noticed the USB drive light got turned off (It's on earlier), then get an error message "... has not found any hard disk drive".

I tried the same ISO image and the same hard drive on my Dell, no problem, everything works.

I'm really stuck, don't know what to do next. Please help!

Hello Explorer,

Let me help you.

It seems that the bootable media doesn't detect your hard drives correctly. However, there's a workaround. Please try to boot off the CD with modified parameters the following way:

  1. Boot the computer from Acronis bootable rescue CD
  2. Hit F11 key either on the selection screen which some of Acronis products provide or when Starting Acronis Loader... message appears
  3. Type in 'acpi=off noapic'(without quotation marks)  and click OK to proceed

Please reply to this thread if the issue still persists.

Thank you.

Thanks for helping!

Followed your instructions, the USB hard drive light stays on, but nothing happens after a whole bunch of message scrolled through the screen.

When the message stopped, on the top of the screen I saw a number of error messages about error inserting "...usb-storage.ko: -1 file exist". The bottom portion of the message screen attached.

The cursor just blinks at the bottom of the screen, the screen went blank after a while.

Anything I can try?

Just got an A505-S6005 and have similar problems. Tried a bootable ATI 2010 CD and it hangs after I select ATIH. Also tried booting from USB stick - same issue. Tried the Linux cmd line "no acpi" and get all of the Linux boot messages until it gets to "sd...". It then jst hangs there forever.

Would really like to get this resolved and tested so I can assure myself that I can create and restore images by booting to some type of Acronis Bootable media (CD or USB).

Hello,

Explorer and Lester, first of all please note that we've uploaded an updated ISO images to accounts on 28 of April, so if you used older ISO images, I recommend you to download and try the new ones.

If the issue still persists, please to do the following:

Collect Linux System Report;

Collect Windows System Information;

Submit a support request with the gathered information.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Just a quick reply. I downloaded the latest ISO image, burnt it to CD, verified CD boots on my desktop PC and then tried it in the Toshiba A505. The problem persists. Using the "acpi=off noapic" boot options, I can see it gets somewhere in the probe of USB devices/controller. The screen shows
.
.
hub....
hub...
usb..
usb...
At which point it hangs 4ever.
I will obtain the Linux System Report as well as the Windows System Information and submit a support request.

Hello Lester!

Thank you!

OK so I have a case number, the support person had me download YET ANOTHER ISO and I reported back that it did not work either. This was several days ago and I have not heard back from anyone in Support.

Here is the case number from the emails: 00D3Zcb.50058vGnR.

Dear Lester!

Thank you for your comment and for keeping us posted.

I'm awfully sorry for the inconvenience you faced with support, please, accept our apologies for this situation. I already took ownership over your case and forwarded it to the Linux Expert - he should review the information you have attached and find a solution.

I'm not sure whether he will be available on weekend, but sending a follow up to him will be the first thing I'll on Monday.

Let me know in case you need anything else or have any additional concerns!

Thank you.

Dear Yana and Ilya,

I just came back from a long trip and want to check if there is any resolution. Any progress?

The ISO image I tried was Build 7046, it appears to be the latest. If you have a later version I can try, let me know.

I could not create a Linux System Report or collect Windows Systems Info. as it just could not boot!

Were you able to help Lester? He had the same problem as I did.

Please help!

Explorer:

The short answer is Yes, Acronis support eventually got this working as of May 28th. My issue addressed by filling out a support request and then corresponding directly with the support tech. Once the case number was opened for my specific problem, a support tech was eventually able to resolve the problem by providing me with an updated ISO image (still called Build 7046), but obviously with some changes in it. My case was elevated to a level 2 tech.

I am not sure how you would get the same ISO I got but I don't see why Acronis would not provide it to you for testing.

Les

Les,

Thank you so much for responding! I was planning to reload everything from scratch as a last resort. That will take me a long time, moreover Best Buy didn't provide any software disc. I was thinking about what to do. If you can send me a copy of the ISO via PM, that will be a tremendous help!!! We have the same computer, the ISO that worked for yours should work for mine as well.

Thanks!!!!

Explorer

Hello,

Lester, thank you for your assistance.

Explorer, I've sent you the alternate ISO image and some explanations via Private Message. Please reply to it and let me know how the new ISO image worked fro you.

Thank you.

I tried the ISO that was sent to me but it created a total disaster!

When the process was completed with a message that the recovery was successful, the computer locks up at the starting page, cannot go to start up utilities or boot sequence. It was totally locked up. A total melt down. It turned my computer into a useless paper weight.

I posted a response for help but was somehow deleted!!!????

I suppose someone don't like to see my report of a disaster or trying to tell me to take my computer back to Best Buy for help.

I am disappointed and frustrated!

I am not sure I understand your problem, but I do not think that the Acronis True Image software is the real root cause of all of your issues. Just to let u know, I am a very experienced computer user (in fact a software engineer) and have been using Acronis products for many years at work and at home and have never experienced a major problem such as the one(s) you describe. In addition, although Toshiba did not provide physical media with which u can restore your system, they do provide a way to make system restore media from within Windows 7, which should have been the VERY FIRST thing u did when u booted the computer. This would have allowed u to restore the system to the factory state.
That said, if u need some assistance, I may be able to help, but this forum is NOT the place to do it. I will send u a PM with an email address you can use to contact me, if u so desire.

Here are the conclusions to the problem:

1. After weeks of repair, I finally got my laptop back. The hard drive was replaced and the computer works again.

2. My computer was brand new, the likelihood that the drive failed on its own immediately after it was re-imaged was extremely small. The prime suspect of the problem was the ISO I received.

3. Les was very kind; he sent me his ISO as he tested it and it worked. The file size of his ISO was larger and it loaded very clean without lots of funny screen messages. I was able to restore my backup image using his ISO without any problems. My computer is now back in service after many weeks.

4. It's very clear to me that Acronis did fix the problem, but a defective ISO file was sent to me in error. Had it not happen, I'd not have to endure weeks of agony and the trips to get the computer repaired.

5. I'd like to see that Acronis be more careful in sending out correct files so that others won't end up wasting so much time and effort like I did.
