Drive Clone error: Starting Acronis Loader hangs
O/S is Win Pro
Attempted to clone 2 drives and when Acronis reboots
it hangs with the Starting Acronis Loader displayed
I had to restore the windows boot loader manually to
be able to boot into Windows.
Any ideas around?

I have cloned disks for years with Acronis with only one other problem besides this failure. This is a new problem. Doing a disk clone should not be a problem.

Well, often you can walk in the middle of car traffic okay, but it's not recommended. You may have done this many times, but there are good reasons why we recommend specific procedures. This failure demonstrates why we recommend what we do.
As for current situation, you'd need to provide more information. For example:
- what OS? ("Win Pro" doesn't tell us)
- was clone done from ATI Windows app or ATI Rescue Media?
- what do you mean by "clone 2 drives"? You were cloning two drives at the same time?
- where was the source drive and where was the target drive, and how were they connected?
- was the reboot the first reboot from Windows into the Linux-based clone operation, or was that a reboot after cloning?

Frank,
Out of interest was this by starting the cloning in Windows and the reboot into Linux or tby using physical recovery media?

Sorry! O/S was a typo. Using Win 8 Pro
Cloning from ATI Windows
Clone is from HD1 to HD2, connect through Sata controller.
Error msg was first thing I saw after my system rebooted after setting up to start the clone from HD1 to HD2.
By the way, Acronis says I can clone disks.

Does your PC have UEFI, Secure Boot, and GPT disk?
We recommend that cloning, if you must do it, be done from the bootable Rescue Media.

No, No, and No.
My system is an older home built (by me about 5 years ago)system, that I have cloned for years.

Frank,
If you have done past clones, then boot from the TI Recovery CD and do the clone when booted from the CD.
This should avoid any Windows problem.

Frank,
I have the same problem here. I plugged in two disks for cloning one to the other and after configuring the clone operation and restarting, Acronis Loader was failed to start and hung at 'Starting Acronis Loader'. Since this is a feature accessible from the Windows GUI, it is to expected that the operation should work. If a GUI feature such as this fails to work, it is, at the very least, a warranty issue.
@Tuttle: It's astonishing to see that instead of trying to get to the bottom of the problem you started off by insulting Frank. Is this the Acronis attitude?
Also, your push to use only the most basic functionality, as well as browbeating the user who raises and issue, indicates that you are aware of issues with ATI.
As to being "advanced users who know what they are doing", while that is certainly true, the GUI design in ATIH is excellent, with very little room for mistakes. The fact that the programme fails to configure the loader to work properly looks like a different issue, i.e. not something to do with the user or the GUI.
Issue: Starting Acronis Loader failure after reboot for disk cloning
Error message: none, program hangs
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
MB: Gigabyte GA-Z77x-UD3H
CPU: Intel I5-3570k
Experience: 10+ years admin and system building
So, please, Acronis Forum MVP's and Heroes, let me know what further details or steps are required to solve the issue. No workarounds please. Thanks.

Using XP Pro and True Image 2013 , I did a clone operation. Then I booted the pc with both drives installed. Now, I find that XP is using both drives. The cloned drive will not boot if the origin drive is disconnected. I have since learned that I should have disconnected the origin drive before booting up the pc. Is there a fix for this and where can I get the detailed procedure to fix it?

If possible, remove the old drive and place it in an external caddy, boot the new drive so that Windows will autoupdate registry and the MBR, then using Windows Disk Managment or a disk partition utility remove the 'Active' flag on the old drive.
Alternatively if you don't have an external caddy, boot the system, open up a disk utility, remove the active flag from the old drive, disconnect the power to that drive, reboot, Windows will update the registry on the new drive, you can then after switching your machine off reconnect the power to the drive. So long as the active flag is no longer assigned to the old drive everything should boot OK.

Tuttle
you shouldn't be posting here for a couple of reasons.
users are having problems with the ATI app and on top of that your condescending attitude which makes the users experience with ATI even worse; "so the customer leaves with a bad taste in their mouth".
This is not what Acronis is looking for because dissatisfied customers hurt the bottom line in the long run.

Same problem, just trying to install an SSD, didn't know I needed to disconnect the source drive as other software skips this step. I recloned the drive and removed the source disk. Now I get an Acronis Loader error saying it cannot find the boot partition. Can I fix this by removing Acronis and reinstalling it?

Hello Lorin,
Please see: 56634: Acronis True Image 2016: Cloning Disks which although is written for ATIH 2016 still applies to earlier versions of the product in principle.
See also: 45831: Acronis Software: Unbootable System after Cloning Operation for some common causes of problems after cloning.
Note: Reinstalling the Acronis application will not fix your missing boot partition issue.
When you clone one drive to another you are making an identical copy of the source drive on the target drive.
In order to successfully boot from the cloned (target) drive, it must be installed in place of the original bootable source drive as that is where all the boot information is configured to look for vital files and settings. You should not boot with both drives attached (source and target) as this will cause other issues due to the duplicated disk signatures.
Please note that just adding a comment on an old forum post may result in it being missed or ignored because of the age of the original post. You should open a new forum post in your own name and provide more details of the issue you are seeking help for, including the version of the Acronis product you are using, Windows version etc.
