Duplicate folders automatically created on new external USB drive

Thread needs solution

I have a problem in that for whatever reason a whole bunch of backup folders previous created on another external USB drive (call it USB #1) are recreated on a second external USB (USB #2) which is brand new and empty with the exception of 2 new backups.

Each backup on USB #1 are created in their own unique folder name.
Examples:
ATI2015_Win7Pro_64Bit_Q478X_082115
ATI2015_Win7Pro_64Bit_Q478X_092615
ATI2015_Win7Ult_64Bit_HX8BB_080715
ATI2015_Win7Ult_32Bit_7FGQH_040315
ATI2014_WinVista_64Bit_XT77V_022114

Naming convention:
ATI2015 = Version of True Image
Win7Pro_64Bit = Windows 7 64Bit Version
Q478X = Last 5 characters of product key
082115 = MMDDYY (Month Day Year) of when backup was created.

USB #2 is empty except for the two backups previous mentioned which have their own unique folder names. Suddenly two new folders are created on USB #2 with the folder names being the same as 2 of the 5 listed above that reside on USB#1. The folder’s creation date is today’s date and not the date of the actual backup. The folder names are identical, however no image file (.tib) is in either of the two newly created folders.

So I deleted every entry in the list of backups by using the ‘Remove from list’ option and deleting the two empty folders on USB#2.

After disconnecting USB#2 and conducting some tests I decided to create another image backup on USB#2. Shortly after connecting the USB drive and launching Acronis 2015 a whole bunch on new folders where suddenly created, all empty and with today’s date and time. They are all a mirror image of the folder names on USB#1.

What is causing this happen and how do I fix/stop this from happening again?

James,

Very strange. Somewhat similar have been reported in prior vesions.

Things to watch out for.

Each storage target disk needs its own task.

Task name to be unique, or no two tasks with same name.

and I suggest each task have its own unique target folder.

Target disk must be attached when task created.

You may already be doing this but just in case.....

Folder creation on newly attached USB drives is simply a bug in Acronis TI 2015 ... (:-((

It´s annoying and frustrating when you first notice this, but does not affect backup and recovery (as far as I noticed).

I had this happen to me using ATI2014.  I believe it was caused by Deleting a task (backup job) then moving the folder containing the TIB files to a different location.

I fixed the problem by deleting Archives.xml

GH-Storage (AKA GroverH) published the steps to delete Archives in the link below.

GH55. Delete Database History Archives.xml.

GH55A. Acronis services

The steps above are for ATI 2014.  GH-Storage needs to verify if the same steps would work for ATI 2015.  If not, would he please publish the steps for ATI 2015 & ATI 2016.

Please note, deleting Archives.xml will delete all current tasks.  It will not impact any TIB files.  However, you will have to create new tasks.
