DVI Issue with Emergency Recovery

Acronis True Image 2011 (Build: 6942)
ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard
ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon video card

With a DVI cable to the monitor, the Emergency Recovery disc displays Starting Acronis but then the monitor stops synching.

With a D-sub adapter connected to the video card DVI connector, the Emergency Recovery disc boots and works fine.

Any idea why the Emergency Recovery disc only works when using a DVI to D-sub adaptor?
