E000101F4 no hard drives found

Thread needs solution

I have ATI 9 that has worked perfectly for a year or so. I backup to an external USB drive using incremental backups.

I can view the USB drive in MyComputer, and I can mount the USB drive using ATI.
But even while ATI has happily got the USB drive mounted, it reports "E000101F4 ATI has not found any hard disk drives."

Likely condidates for causing the problem: I recently instaled Norton IS 2010 and WinPatrol. However, I have tried turning both of these off (as much as they will allow) and no difference.

Is there any way to tell what is stopping ATI from seeing the hard drives?

Is this Version 9 or TI 2009 you are referring to? What OS are you running? Try uninstalling both apps to see if this makes a difference. Sometimes just turning them off doesn't eliminate the problem. There is a lot of discussion on Norton. See this search http://forum.acronis.com/search/apachesolr_search/Norton.

It is version 9, with Win XPpro SP3.

I see there is a lot of discussion about Norton, but I haven't seen any solutions. If I have to make a choice between ATI and Norton I probably would keep Norton. I would be happy to upgrade to latest ATI if this solves the problem but Forum posts indicate it doesn't.

Since so many people have raised this issue, I am surprised not to find Acronis investigating and explaining what is the problem and why it can't be worked around.

You could download the trial version for free and try it. Its good for 30 days. http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/download/. There are limitations http://kb.acronis.com/content/2768/.

I have tried uninstalling both apps, and also anything else I can find that I don't need. And of course have rebooted several times.

TI still says it cannot find any hard disk drives. But t still does allow me to mount the external USB hard drive and display all my backup files. But since it "cannot find" any drives, I cannot make any further backups.

I have tried downloading and installing the latest version of TI 9 (again).

Can anyone suggest what would cause the E000101F4 error ?? And how to get TI working again?

Thanks thomasjk
That link has fixed the problem. (As well as me uninstalling and reinstalling TI).

It would still be useful to know what the problem was due to. ie. I presume some registry entry(s) get set wrong and TI could not recover from this. I will now have to start reinstalling all the stuff I removed, and checking after each one if TI still works.

Thanks again thomasjk.

Sadly next day the "No hard Drives found" error has reappeared.

I followed the link again and then reinstalled TI (and it did not ask for registration key etc). Now when I try to run TI it says "Cannot find serial number: try reinstalling TI". I have tried reinstalling several times but no change.

Hello,

thomasjk, thank you very much for your assistance.

Chris, let me help you to resolve the issue.

There are several probable reasons of the issue:

  • Proper permissions could not be applied to the registry during installation of Acronis True Image
  • There was no proper serial number written to the HKLM\Software\Acronis\TrueImage registry key

To fix the issue, please do the following:

  1. Uninstall Acronis True Image;
  2. Open Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> regedit);
  3. Delete the following subkey:
  4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\TrueImage

    After that please install the software again.

    Please reply to this thread if the issue still persists.

    Thank you.
