E00640068 - RPC server is unavailable - but no Scheduler 2 Service

Thread needs solution

Hello!

Even Google helps to find solution to start Acronis Scheduler 2 Service.

But that does not help for this service does not exist! Was really not 1st time I installed 11 Home on a new system for easier bcking up durig buildign it up, and too often I stopped TryAndDecide. But now the essntial mentioned service is missing.

Situation is an older HDD with XP (well known) failing on a »new« boad. So I tried repair instalaltion, of course it fiald. Od Windows was a German one, but Setup obviously kill old Windows folder and added ‹Progem Files› (this version is internation with spech packs, but SP2). As often, I added SpeechPack of SP2 to new SP2, SP3, IE8 a.s.o. But then, installation of Acronis left me without mentioned service.

Tried it several times, ther is neither an optimization software nor a virus shield running. How do I get Acronis to work? (What here has happened may happen again…)

Markus,

If I understand correctly, you have rebuilt an old XP system and are trying to run Acronis True Image 11 Home on this but are getting an error message for the RPC Service / Acronis Scheduler 2 Service?

I do not have any means to test this problem scenario myself but there are some KB documents that may help you.

KB 1521: RPC Server is Unavailable (Error Code: 1722) and
KB 1518: Acronis Backup Software Scheduled Tasks Do Not Run

The second KB document offers a download for an updated version of the Acronis Scheduler 2 software.

I solved it in an uncommon way.

No, I did not »install an XP into an existing XP«, all was new, Acronis 11 was not known to Registry or anything else.

In Registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services simply did not contain Scheduler 2 service. Files did exist, but they were not activated by such a REG entry. So I exported it from a working system, imported it and a reboot launched service.

It worked. So why an essential service itself got not installed?

Markus, glad to hear that you have solved this issue and thanks for giving feedback on what needed to be done.

This is an other export of same registry key:

Be aware to open RegEdit after import and check content of «ImagePath» that it matches to your local situation.
