Easy one...Cloning Advice
Hi guys
I wondered if you could advise me if I'm using the software in the correct way. I've had a search around but am still none the wiser.
What I'm trying do is make a few std images of company laptops and desktops so that when a new one is ordered a can just dump a basic windows image on it with our std software. All the laptops and desktops will be exactly the same model. So what I have done is create an Acronis bootable CD and I want to boot to it, copy/clone the PC/laptop image and save it to an external 2TB drive (there will only be 15 or so images in total.)
At present I havent got a 2TB drive so I am just testing with a 64GB USB memory stick. But when I select clone from the bootable CD it tells me that I need another hard drive attached, it doesnt recognise the USB memory stick, but if I select the Backup option it does recognise the USB stick, so I'm assuming I'm going about the cloning process incorrectly. Any advise please? Thanks.

Thank you for the advice.
I tried using the 'Backup' option previously to 'Clone' and have used it in a previous version of Acronis, but I thought something had changed as instead of giving me one .tib file it created 4 - I just want 1 if possible. Why does it create 4? Sorry to be needy....

You cannot use the "Backup" command to clone. Again, you confuse the two. They are very different operations, with very different outcomes and hugely different risk.
A single backup operation run once could create four files because:
- the target disk is formatted FAT32, which has a maximum file size limit of 4 GB. Anything larger must be split.
- you selected the option to have the backup split into file chunks capable of being burned to DVD-R disks, or CD-R disks.

Just before I saw your post I realised my USB was formatted to FAT32....apologies!! Problem solved. Thanks for your time.

You should reformat it to NTFS.
If it contains irreplaceable data, back that up first as the reformat will erase it.
