Encrypted Yes or No?

Thread needs solution

When I set up online backup I believed that I had also set up encryption.
I have just had a technical issue with the online backup which was resolved succesfully by the Acronis Chat help. However, during the help process the operative examined my online account and gave me the names of some of my backed up folders.
After the problem had been resolved I asked the question that that I thought my backup was encrypted and yet he could read what was in it - was that correct?
His reply was that "It is possible to find out whether the system has backed up the folders you want to backup; but it is not possible to explore the contents of the backed up folders."

I find this worrying as I would have thought everything would have been encrypted even folder names and surely if the folders can be seen then so can the files? I am puzzled

Dear Rog,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! I completely share your concern, and will do my best to help you.

Yes, the data is absolutely encrypted, and without the encryption key it is impossible to access the backed up data. Even if the Developer is investigating some issue with the backed up data, he will be requested for the encryption key, since without it the meta folder won't provide him with the necessary access, and the data will remain closed.

I have found your case and conversation with the SP regarding the Online Backup, and I regret to inform you that we don't have the information regarding the method that SP used to access the encrypted data. Our Management team is highly concerned, too. We have forwarded the investigation request to the responsible team. I will update you as soon as we have any news.

From our end we verifying the encryption and access to your data, and  we may assure you that currently there's no one who can access you data without the encryption key.

Please, don't hesitate to share your concerns or feedback with us, we will be glad to address every your question.

Thank you once again for reporting the situation to us directly, we really appreciate it.
