Erase MBR

Thread needs solution

Does any one know if the Utilities in True Image 2009 will ERASE the MBR?

Why? I am installing used disks into the Intel Entry Storage System (SS4300) and it won't work if any of the drives have an MBR.

So there are a lot of options to wipe the HDD, but a quick wipe didn't seem to zero the MBR. Any help would be appreiacted (and save me hours of doing a full wipe and it stillisn't clear if the MBR will be zeroed.)

BTW, would a "clone" from a RAW disk to the previously used disk do the trick?

Dan:

I don't think TI 2009 will completely zero the first sector (MBR) on a disk. Even Acronis Disk Director wants to leave the DiskID and the BIOS parameter block intact when wiping a disk.

You could try a free disk utility, Roadkill's sector editor: http://www.roadkil.net/program.php?ProgramID=24

Thanks for the quick reply. The sector editor didn't seem to recognize any of my drives. I'll try with a different version of windows and see if I have any luck.

I tried the XP version and it did the trick on an XP computer. (The Win 7 version didn't provide the drives from the pick list for some reason--yes it was the Win 7 version.)

Thanks Mark. (The Aconis wipe and delete partitions does NOT wipe the boot sector.)

Hello all,

Dan, I've forwarded your request to appropriate department, so probably this feature (ability to erase MBR) will be included in the future version of Acronis software.

Please reply to this thread if you have any additional questions, I'll be glad to help you.

Thank you.
