error with ati 2012

Thread needs solution

Hi, im using ATI 2012 on a win7 home p pc, and ive recently been doing backups using a cd burnt from the downloaded iso.

I recently used this cd to backup to one of my nas,s, and I thought i should test it by trying to recover a couple of files. I booted using the cd and searched for the nas, which it found and allowed me to search its contents, but when i tried to access the backup file created earlier, it produced the following dialogue box.

"You have selected a remote resource and have not specified credentials for it. Do you want to continue"

When i select yes ati just goes back to the previous screen. i tried several times and finally it let me browse the backup file and it restored a couple of files to different locations (by choice). Obviously if im going to rely on this method of backing up, is there anything I need to do to allow me reliable access to the nas backup files?

Thanks in advance

I don't think you can do much to correct this erratic behavior, since you go through the Linux-recovery CD.

It is a good thing to did test it!

When backup up to a remote location, there is always a risk that that location might be visible to the recovery environment for some reason or another.

It looks like it ended up working.

Did you enter a username/password combination to access the NAS?

Hi, and thanks for the response. I have no opportunity to enter any name/password when using the boot cd. The nas is visible with the boot cd. There is no restrictions set up for access to the nas in windows.
So your saying that this "erratic" behavior is normal, and if that the case then its futile backing up to a nas?????

Sorry to sound pushy, but i think youll understand my concerns?

Yes, I do understand the concerns. Again, you did the right thing in testing the recovery CD. Unfortunately, since the Linux environment of the recovery CD is closed, you cannot do much.
If you upgrade to the Plus Pack, you can create a WinPE-based disk. As you know, that uses Windows drivers. Therefore, you have fewer issues with hardware support, networking, etc. In addition, you can relatively easily insert drivers in that image.

Thanks for the response, good news, i have plus pack, and i used the plus pack iso to make a bootable disc from to backup and restore. both iso downloads, that is ati and plus pack iso seem the same size? i have never installed plus pack because i am not keen on the added on stuff in ati anyway, and didnt want to add to the background stuff already running.

I take it that i can only make a win pe disc if i install plus pack, is that right, and do i have to install the windows aik to build it?

thanks

You stated:

The two ISO files are different, the Plus Pack ISO has the Plus Pack enabled, the standard ISO does not.

"I take it that i can only make a win pe disc if i install plus pack, is that right, and do i have to install the windows aik to build it?"

That is correct, the Plus Pack must be installed to be able to use the Acronis WinPE ISO Builder, and yes you need the Windows AIK for Windows 7. The Windows AIK for Windows 7 SP1 Supplement is optional, and is not needed for the Plus Pack WinPE Builder.

Thanks for the help, probably easier, and safer, to keep the backups on ext usb hard drives as they work with the out of the box ati boot disc? fortunately i have several pcs so i guess if push comes to shove I could copy the backup off the nas onto some other media.

Thanks again
