Error Loading Operating System

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Apologies if there is already an existing thread, but none that i found helped me out.

Basically, i am using Acronis True Image to do a clone of my Laptops' hard disk. It is currently using a 120GB Serial ATA Hitachi HDD. The new drive that will be replacing the Hitachi is SanDisk 128GB SSD. During the cloning, i have tried doing manual clone, using both proportional and as is option and both of them seem to complete fine, but when i try to boot my laptop again, it says error loading operating system. The new drive is using the same slot and i have tried doing the fixmbr, fixboot and bootcfg /rebuild using the recovery console through the CD, but no luck.

I have also checked the bios and i only have 2 options for the hard drive. 1 is ATA the other is AHCI. The default one was ATA. I have tried using AHCI, but it does not detect the drive when i want to go to the recovery console and ATA just gives me the error loading operating system.

I am using Windows XP Professional.
The laptop is Dell Latitude D630.

Could anyone please advise if there is anything else that i can do?

Make a full disk backup to an external HD.

Remove the internal drive and replace it with the new drive.

Boot from the ATI bootable Rescue Disk. Do a full disk restore to the new drive.

The above is much safer than cloning.
