error msg: "cannot delete file xxxx: the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable" when reading a restored file

Thread needs solution

I restored a single file from a full disk image using Acronis 9.0 which turned out to be corrupted by the backup/restore process. I understand this problem is fixed by a lter build which i am presently downloading, but my problem is, how do i get rid of the bad file? If i try and run the file or delete it, i get an error msg "cannot delete file xxxx: the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable", which then flags XP SP3 to run a chkdsk on the next reboot. After a solid hour, it finds no problem. So how do I delete this 125MB file that is now sitting on my harddrive like a landmine waiting to cause trouble. I can find no reference to this problem on the microsoft support forums. Please help.

You could boot to the TI CD and try deleting it from there.

  1. Boot to TI Full Mode from the TI CD.
  2. Select to do a Backup.
  3. On the Backup Archive Location page of the wizard, change the Files of type to All Files (*).
  4. Browse to the file and select it.
  5. Delete it by clicking on the red "X" button just above the folder/file tree (next to the "New Folder" button).
  6. Cancel the backup.
