Error msg "Failed to open data stream"
I am backing up entire hard drive to an external USB drive. Upon completion of the backup, I receive the following error message:
"Failed to open data stream. Try to remove the backup from the list, add it again by clicking "browse for backup" and recreate the backup settings"
I have done the above items, but the error message persists upon completion of another backup.
I am using Build 6525.
Any thoughts as to why this message is occurring? Thanks

Try updating to build 6613 as see if you get the same error message. What OS are you using; if you are using Windows 10 (64 or 32; Home or PRO) and how was it installed (clean install; upgrade via windows update or via downloaded media)?

yep.. same here on Windows 10. Pick any backup scheme and turn on automatic cleanup and I get this error every time no matter if I backup to a local folder on same drive, external usb, local second internal hard drive or NAS. Run as administrator or not, shared folder or not, install on my lap top, install on my desk top, same old same old "Failed to open data stream" .Thought maybe the 'upgrade' from 2015 to 2016 would be better but NOT! Only thing I can successfully do is backup with no automatic cleanup set and do the cleanup myself. Didn't see any discount for the cleanup feature never working.

Has this problem, which has just started for me as well, been resolved? I'm on Windows 10, and the product did appear to work for a while after upgrading, but now I'm stuck with this problem.
This is very difficult/problematic software.
Update: I removed and then reinstalled Acronis - and that has allowed me to run a successful backup (at least the s/w said it had! I await completion of verification)

I have the same problem with WIN 7 Prof 64. Deinstallation and reinstallation of the newest build from the Acronis homepage do not solve the problem. Presently after the error message is diplayed the ATIH freezes.

Just upgraded to Build:5620. No change. Same old, same old "Failed to open data stream" when automatic cleanup is turned on.
Update: Don't know if this will work for you but it did for me. Proceed at your own risk. I did however upgrade to latest build:5620 first on my Windows 10 desktop and of course was still plagued by the "Failed to open data stream" issue so I tried some suggestions other have had as follows:
I used file explorer and navigated to C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database directory (ProgramData is a hidden directory but you can navigate to it by typing in the path on the top of the file explorer of changing the option to show hidden files). Then I deleted the file named Archives.db (it was in use by another Acronis monitoring process so I used task manager to end that app so I could delete it). I re-started Acronis and it prompted me for my Acronis credentials and it recreated the Archives.db file.
Ran several incremental test that included automatic cleanups. All ran well. No more "Failed to open data stream".
Restarted my PC to be sure all Acronis background process were working and ran the same test with the same good results.
I also noticed when I deleted my test backups it also deleted the underlying files (and it never did that before, yeah!).
Proceeded to my Windows 10 lap top, upgraded to build:5620. Started Acronis. Prompted me for my Acronis credentials. All test ran correctly with out doing anything with the Archives.db file as above. Go figure.
