Error reading the file.

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis True Image Home 2009. I created a backup to ftp and set it to a schedule. Initially, when I first setup the backup and run it then, the backup works fine; however, all other backups fail with the following error:

Error reading the file. A possible reason may be poor media quality. Please press retry to continue with Volume 1 or press Cancel to cancel the operation.

This has been constant ever since I bought the program. I have never been able to successfully setup a recurring backup. Can anyone help?

Hello Larry,

Let me assist you with this situation.

The cause is that when you're backing up to FTP, Acronis True Image automatically splits backup archives to 2 GB volumes.

Acronis True Image does not create a new control connection when the server drops the first one due to timeout.

As a workaround, try doing the following:

  • Increase timeout for idle control connection in the settings of FTP server;
  • Set the size value in Archive splitting settings to 200 MB (Tools -> Options -> Default backup options).

This is expected to be fixed in future updates. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

I'd like to make sure all your queries regarding Acronis products are resolved.
Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Regards,
