eSata-Error occurred While Writing The File

Thread needs solution

I have TIH2011 and sometimes I am able to write to my external eSata drive, and sometimes I get the error "Error occurred while writing the file" and the image is canceled after about 10-20 seconds. The external drive is a Thermaltake BlacX. There's plenty of room on the drive and the full backup settings are at the defaults. Any suggestions of other settings I may be missing that will allow me backups to this drive? It works more times than not but I never know if it will or won't until I try it. Rebooting doesn't seem to make a difference either.

This is probably a hardware issue. First, run memtest86 over night to eliminate memory issues. If no issue is found, try to backup to another disk to make sure it is not an Acronis issue. If backing up to another disk still fails, try to backup from the recovery CD (that will eliminate Windows driver issues).

I can backup to other internal HD's OK, just not consistently to the external. The external is always on and functions just for external storage. There's no problems reading or writing to the drive otherwise. Are there drive settings that are available and more optimal for use with TIH and eSata drives?

None that I know off. One thing to try is update your eSata or chipset drivers if you have any. I would still run the memtest86 test. Are you eSata ports connected to the same controller as your main disk or to a secondary controller? Do you have software monitoring your disks or the Intel Storage Manager?

It appears the problem has something to do with the BlacX external docking station. The BlacX is on a SIL3132 eSata card, which has an extra internal sata port. I updated the bios and drivers for the card without any improvement. I took the same drive out of the BlacX and connected it directly to the card and it created the image without a problem. I have no problems with the BlacX otherwise. Thanks!
