Exclude folders not working in 2014?
I've entered exclusion folders as c:\users\myself\folder\ but they still seem to be included. (see image)
My C drive has 4.2TB of data, but mostly in a few folders which I have exclusions setup to exclude them. Using explorer/properties I've calculated that I am excluding 3.54TB of the 4.2TB (so ~660GB selected). I have a 3GB external drive for the backup and yet the backup fails due to running out of space! what the...?!?!
It also takes >16 hours. So clearly it isn't heeding my exclusion list. I am using "Disk backup" in partition mode. See image for how the exclusion folders are setup. Any reason why this isnt working?
Thanks!
Colin

Hi Pat,
Thanks for the reply. I figure it's a bug. I've only selected 660MB and destination is 3GB free so it's not near the danger zone. I am not a fan of separate partitions because you always seem to end up with free space here and there that you can't use - root get's full or data get's full. This drive is an 8TB RAID6 using WD RE4 with SSD front-end caches. There is no reason for me to separate my root and data/content other than to appease Acronis TI.
This is not my first bug, and has been this way for the 4 years I've been using it. Last time I had to restore the restore disk wouldn't work, I finally got a PXE disk to work after much tweaking.

Question, are you excluding a total of 660 GB from the backup job or is your total backup job equal to 660GB?
Does your backup job contain many small files many large files or a mixture of the both? If a mixture of both would you say there are more large files than small ones or vice versa?
Your 3TB drive is how connected to your PC? If USB connection is this a USB 3.0 connection or 2.0? Or networked?
If you are backing up 660GB of data to a full 3TB space and this 660GB of data is all small file size (under 1GB for example) and your backup device is connected via network or USB then a 16 hour backup time probably is not that far off. You will find that it is difficult to transfer much more than around 30MBps to 40MBps via these type connections. Small files sizes make things much slower. Already compressed file types make things slower as well. Combinations of both can bring things down to a snails pace. Is this normal? Unfortunately yes it is. There are a number of reasons this is true some hardware related such as HDD write head delay in seek time especially with small files. TI attempts to further compress already compressed files and that is another factor which slows down the backup process a great deal. Connection speeds is another factor, just because you have a Gigabit network connection or a USB 3.0 connection does not mean you will see blazing fast data transfer speeds. There are many factors involved in the backup data transfer scheme that effect total transfer time. See this link for more details:

Your exclusion issue is another story. There was a thread posted awhile back about this same issue you are having. It is unfortunate but I do not believe there was any resolution to that thread. Could well be a bug. Have you ever had success creating a backup in which your chosen exclusions were in fact excluded from the backup image? If so, are the problems with these backups now including these chosen exclusion possibly the result of your overlooking the check box to "Save as default" setting in the Exclusions options window? This box must be checked to carry forward chosen exclusions to subsequent backup tasks. See this link:

Recheck your steps and settings to make sure you have performed the documented steps for exclusions. Maybe it just something you overlooked that is the problem.
