Exclusions Not Working

Thread needs solution

I just upgraded to True Image 2015 and find that the "Exclusions" don't work. That is if I add a folder to be excluded from a backup, the exclusion is ignored and the folder is backed up. To keep it simple, one of the default exclusions is "$RECYCLE.BIN". This means to me that the Recycle Bin should be excluded from all backups, but it is backed up. In checking further, I find that none of the default entries and those that I add are excluded. This means that backups are larger and take longer than they should while backing useless garbage. Has anyone else run into this problem, if so have you found a solution.

I am having the same problem with Acronis True Image 2016. Tried all the fixes suggested around the internet but Exclusions feature still refuses to work. Created a new backup with default settings and added a folder to the exclusings list and did a backup. When it finished I went into restore a file option and opened the backup and the folder was there with the files showing in the folder even though it is listed in the exclusion list.

I use to put my Acronis backup on my "D" hard drive and Acronis would back that up too even though a "tib" exlusion was in the list of exclusion files which made for extremely long large backups."

I ended up moving that "D" tib file to a different hard drive that I do not back up to get around the problem.

Sure would like to find a solution to the problem. Will keep an eye on this post and see if any ideas show up that will fix this problem.

Gerald, I would recommend raising this issue in the ATIH 2016 Forum rather here in the 2015 one.

There have been several users reporting issues with exclusions recently though it is difficult to get to the bottom of the issue without more information.

Please download a copy of the Log File Viewer app from the link in my signature below, this can be used to check for the messages being posted in the Service log files that your backup task created, and which may hold some clues as to why your exclusions are not being actioned. You are welcome to post log files to the forum for help.

Note: If ATIH encounters any bad sectors on your source disk drive, it may switch to doing a sector-by-sector backup instead of normal, in which case all exclusions are ignored by virtue of how sector-by-sector operates.

Wow - a 6 year old thread....

This solved a 6 year old problem for me - I've been dealing with off/on "exclusions not working" forever.. After reading your post, I scanned my disc, found errors, rebooted/fixed and and boom: exclusions work again!

Thank you for the explanation!
