Expert Advice Needed - New SSD Install

Thread needs solution

I have the bug and want to upgrade my computer to a new SSD as my main system drive.

What I have now:

I have a 1TB HDD that is divided into several partitions - C:, D:, E:, etc. - OS on C:

I want to install a new SSD and move the C: drive only (and not any of the other partitions) onto the new SSD.

Is a good way to do this to install the SSD and then use ATIH to clone only the C: partition over to it, then remove / disconnect the old 1TB HDD, reboot and let Win 7 Pro 64 bit figure the rest out?

Ideally then I would reinstall / connect the 1TB HDD and delete the old C: partition and use the drive as a storage or backup only drive.

OR -

Should I first do a full system backup of C: with ATIH to an available drive somewhere? then install the new SSD and do a clean install of the OS on the new SSD? then install ATIH on the new SSD and do a restore of the old C: drive to the new SSD from the AITH backup? my concern would be that I might lose programs and data in the process.

What is the correct / best way to do the install of a new SSD saving all the old programs and data??
