Exploring TIB Files

Thread needs solution

Hi All
Today I updated my Acronis True Image Echo Workstation to build 8,353
on Windows XP pro SP3
I noticed I can't browse TIB files anymore, which was a nice option to have, as well in ATI Management Console, as in plain windows explorer, they show the TIB file but when I open it, the explorer crashes, this used to work fine before the update.
I CAN mount the image tho, so I could do it that way, but if I restore from a mounted image, the Acronis Service crashes too after restoring.
Is there any fix for this, or anyone having the same problem ?

Thanks in advance
J.

Hello Jacob,

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Let me assist you with this situation.

According to the symptoms you described, the product fails to Explore the image due to Backup Archive Explorer corruption. Surely the build 8353 has the ability to explore backups. Please do the following to resolve the issue:

1. Remove Acronis Backup Archive Explorer

Run Device Manager and delete Acronis Backup Archive Explorer:

  • Run regedit and delete the following registry keys:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\AcronisTimounterMonitor
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\timounter
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tifsfilter
  • Delete timounter string from:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} -> UpperFilters

This will remove the product component from your system (the instructions are valid for Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008, please check this article for the detailed information).

After that, let's reinstall the product completely (it will install Archive Explorer automatically):

1. Remove the product via Add or Remove Programs option in Windows Control Panel

2. Install it from scratch from the installation file you've used to install earlier

It should help you to explore backups correctly. Anyway, please let me know if it resolves the issue you experience. Also, feel free to ask any additional questions, I would be glad to assist you.

Thank you.

Hi,
I have Seagate Black Armor Backup which Seagate tells me is your software. It seems to backup fine, but whenever I try to look at any files in any of the .tib files, explorer crashes.

This happens on both my laptop, running WinXP Media Center Edition, SP2 and my desktop, running WinXP Home Edition, SP3. The desktop is a completely fresh install of Windows.

It happens even when I run in Safe Mode.

Could someone please help? Seagate has told me they have done everything they could, and they are out of options.

Thanks,
Jim
