External backup drive has a new letter ....
Crazy computer. All these years the external hard drive has been Drive G:
Now it decides to be Drive F:. Of course Acronis doesn't recognise this change.
What do I do next?

I've got nearly 300GB of data backed up.
Don't tell me I've got to start from scratch again? Gollies!
Think how long that would take!
Then maybe the next time I turn on my computer the original Drive letter may reappear.
There's a computer guru at work.
I'll ask him on Monday as I think you should be able to force the Drive letter on the external Drive to another letter somehow.

There are utilities out there that let you reassign your drive letters - I wonder if that would help?

BRILLIANT! Thank you :)
Doing a Search,you don't even need a utility. Just go :-
Start, Control Panel, System & Maintenance, Admin Tools then Computer Management
I've now bashed that external Drive into submission.
What a relief!

If the assigned drive letter you assigned is low in the letter chain (D,E,F,etc.) you may run into trouble. As long as you keep your external drive attached to your PC you are OK. If you detach the drive for some reason then, attach a few other devices such as thumb drives printer etc. and you have used a low letter for your external drive say D or E with that drive unattached the letters D or E will be available in Windows and other devices attached can use those letters. If you then were to attach your external drive once again and it having an assigned letter of D or E that device would not be recognized because of other devices having used the assigned letter.
It is recommended that external drives indeed need letter assignment but that assignment should be high in the letter chain (X,Y,Z) to avoid this issue.
