F11 doesn't allow running of Boot menu on TI10 build 4871

Thread needs solution

My mobo failed and my replacement only has 1 PS2 port. I purchased a Logitech wireless KB/mouse kit but I get the 'vertical mouse' problem reported in Knowledge Base article 1574.

When I hit F11 as directed during the boot of my Acronis supplied CD for True Image 10 Home build 4871 I get a message from the Loader saying it can't run the Boot Menu. I wanted to append the usbmouse=off directive per the instructions but don't know how to supply the directive. Any ideas? Is there a work around?

Thanks,
Bill Powers

Hello Bill,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
I noticed you are not using the latest build (the latest one is #4942). You may want to update the software, the issue may be addressed in the new build at this point.
You can learn more on how to download the latest build here. Please uninstall the program by means of Add or Remove programs utility, reboot the computer and install the latest update from the scratch. After that recreate Acronis Bootable Media and see if the issue remains.
If the issue still persists, please download an ISO file available under your account (the serial number should be registered) and create a new CD. ISO file available under your account is usually more up to date than the one created within the program. Please log in to your account, go to the Registered products and downloads section -> Bootable media. Download the file.
You can learn more on how to do it in this article. Please see this article on how to burn an ISO file to a CD disk.
Here are the instructions on how to modify the boot parameters for the disks created using the ISO file:
1) Boot from the latest media created;
2) Hit the ESC key when "Loading kernel.dat....." string appears.
3) You will get the "boot:" prompt. In the prompt type the following parameters as shown below:
kernel.dat initrd=ramdisk.dat ramdisk_size=55000 acpi=off noapic quiet
4) Hit Enter key and you wait until Acronis True Image main window appears.
You can type the necessary parameters instead of acpi=off noapic quiet
For example,
kernel.dat initrd=ramdisk.dat ramdisk_size=55000 usbmouse=off quiet
Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.

Hello Oleg and thanks for the quick response. As I mentioned in my original post my mobo stopped booting and had to be replaced. Fortunately, my son lent me his laptop so I can talk to you. Unfortunately, he uses Linux which doesn't seem to want to work with the file I downloaded from my Acronis account site (TrueImage10.0.4942_s_en.exe). I guess I need a bootable iso version.

I can burn an iso file to CD using the Linux system but I don't know what to do with the 4942 build exe file I won't have Windows available until I can restore a full backup I made before the mobo failed. Is there any way of using Linux to convert the downloaded exe file to an iso format? Or is there any way of booting the exe file which doesn't seem to be bootable?

Thanks for your help,

Bill

Hello Bill,

Thank you for your response.

Since currently you are using Linux operating system, you are unable to convert the .exe file to run it, you should install or recover Windows, only after that you will be able to install Acronis True Image.

But if you burn the ISO file to a CD disk, you can be boot your computer from this CD. You will get the access to the same program window and will be able to restore the archive. Please note that while burning the ISO file you should use an option something like Burn ISO file to a CD disk.

After that you should check the BIOS settings, your CD-ROM should be set as a first boot device at the system startup.

Please see this web page on how to do it.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

Thanks Oleg,

I had not paid close enough attention to your instructions and I downloaded the wrong file (exe). I will download the (much smaller) iso file from the bootable media tab and burn it tonight. Can I assume that the contents of that iso should boot and allow me to recover my system from the full backup tib I generated with build 4871?

In any case, thanks for your help. I think I'm on the right track now.

Bill

Hello Bill,

Thank you for your response.

The functionality of Acronis Bootable Media is hardware specific, and the best way to check it is to try. If the new CD is able to detect your hardware properly and if the archives created with build #4871 are not corrupted, you will be able to recover the system and make it bootable.

Please let us know the results. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.
